‘The Boroughs’ Star Plots Sweet Revenge After Netflix Cancel

Denis O’Hare says he’s bummed that Netflix canceled “The Boroughs” after one season, and he wants viewers to use the remaining days of Emmy voting to back the show—calling it “sweet revenge” for the streamer.
Denis O’Hare’s Instagram video didn’t sound like a polite goodbye. It sounded like someone still gripping the show in his hands.
It was Saturday. and O’Hare said he couldn’t stop thinking about the moment Netflix canceled “The Boroughs” after one season. He called himself “really bummed. ” adding that he’d been surprised by how many people have come up to him to say they love the series. In his telling. the praise isn’t limited to any one age group—he said people of all kinds. including those “in their 30s or 40s with kids. ” have told him they’ve connected with the show.
Then he pivoted to action. With “a couple of days before the end of Emmy voting. ” O’Hare urged viewers to vote for “The Boroughs. ” saying they should “stick it to Netflix” and show the streamer it “made a mistake.” He also encouraged people to vote for him and named a slate of co-stars—Bill Pullman. Alfre Woodard. Alfie [Alfred] Molina. Geena Davis. Clarke Peters. Seth Numrich. Alice Kremelberg—before adding that he misses the series and “whatever.”.
“The Boroughs” was produced by the Duffer Brothers. After its arrival, it landed with positive reviews and strong early numbers: the show drew 5.6 million viewers in its opening weekend. Viewership later rose to 9.6 million before dipping to 3.7 million.
This cancellation comes as the Duffer Brothers move through another busy stretch. It is the second series produced by the Duffer Brothers this year, following the limited series “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” which was released in March.
O’Hare’s message lands in the tight space between disappointment and effort—Netflix’s decision already made, but Emmy voting still open. For now, the plan is simple: vote for the cast, vote for the show, and let the industry feel what viewers have been saying since the end of the season arrived.

Netflix cancels everything now, so this tracks.
So wait, Emmy voting is like the same thing as renewing a show? I’m confused. Denis sounds mad like he’s trying to win it back but Netflix already said no right?
I don’t even watch it but I’m side-eyeing the whole thing. If it was getting 9.6 million then how did Netflix drop it? Seems like they just hate anything with older actors or something. Also the Duffer Brothers already made that other show right so they shouldn’t cancel this one, c’mon.
“Sweet revenge” is a little much lol. Like vote so Netflix feels bad? They canceled after 1 season because reasons, and then Emmy votes won’t un-cancel it. But I guess it can’t hurt? I only know Bill Pullman from movies and Geena Davis is awesome so I get why people like it, I just don’t know why the numbers dipped so hard.
