Apple’s Next iPhone Air Could Arrive in Spring 2027

Apple is preparing a second-generation iPhone Air, expected to arrive in spring 2027, about six months after the first launch. Reporting says the slimmer phone is in advanced testing under the internal codename V62, with upgrades focused on two sticking points

A new iPhone Air isn’t just arriving late—it’s arriving because Apple is taking aim at the complaints that came with the last one.

Apple is preparing a second-generation iPhone Air that could land in spring 2027, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The device is reportedly in advanced testing and is expected to keep the ultra-thin design that helped make the iPhone Air stand out when it debuted in September 2025. But this time. Apple is expected to address two of the biggest criticisms of the current model: its camera system and its battery life.

Internally, the next handset is said to carry the codename V62. And while the Air is still expected to look much like the current version, the company is reportedly considering changes that would meaningfully alter what buyers get for the thinner chassis.

The camera complaint is pushing the update

The first iPhone Air launched in September 2025 with a thin body—and that slimness came with a trade-off: a simpler camera setup. Bloomberg reports Apple views the camera system as one of the biggest areas for improvement. saying the limited capabilities of the current single-lens setup have generated the most customer complaints.

One upgrade being considered would add a second rear camera. The extra lens is expected to be an Ultra Wide camera positioned alongside the existing Wide camera. If that happens, it would be a notable change for the Air lineup, which currently relies on a single rear lens.

It would also bring the iPhone Air closer to Apple’s standard iPhone models, which already offer dual-camera systems.

Battery life is next on the list

Camera upgrades may not be the only fix Apple is targeting. Bloomberg also reports Apple is exploring ways to improve battery life, though exactly how it plans to do so is still unclear.

One option under consideration is a larger battery. But fitting a bigger cell inside the iPhone Air’s compact frame could be difficult.

Another possibility is improved power efficiency. Bloomberg reports the updated Air would use a version of the A20 Pro processor—described as the same chip expected to power this fall’s iPhone lineup. The implication is that Apple may be able to extend battery life without needing to physically enlarge the battery.

And the timing suggests a bigger rethink, not just a tune-up

The second-generation Air is also tied to a reported shift in Apple’s release schedule.

Bloomberg reports Apple plans to separate launches of its premium and mainstream iPhones. Under that approach. higher-end models—including the iPhone 18 Pro. the iPhone 18 Pro Max. and the company’s first foldable iPhone—would debut in the fall. The standard iPhone 18 and the refreshed iPhone Air would then follow about six months later, likely in spring 2027.

Apple’s goal. Bloomberg says. is to spread major launches across the year rather than concentrating them in September. which has traditionally been Apple’s biggest iPhone event. The company also believes the staggered schedule could help smooth revenue throughout the year. while creating more moments to compete with rivals that release flagship devices at multiple points in the year.

Taken together, the picture is clear: a next iPhone Air that stays thin is also being reshaped around what customers have questioned most—photos and runtime—while Apple adjusts the calendar so the lineup doesn’t all peak in one moment.

  1. I swear they make the phone thinner and then act surprised the battery dies. If they fix the camera too then fine, but I’m not buying an Air until it’s actually better than the regular one.

  2. Wait so they’re calling it V62 like that’s gonna matter. Isn’t V iPhone like a 6? so… maybe it’s already old news? also the camera single lens thing makes no sense, how does that even take pics.

  3. I don’t get it, people complained about the Air already and they’re still launching another one? Like just make it thicker with a decent battery. If they add an ultra wide then ok, but they should’ve fixed it the first time instead of waiting til 2027.
