Target rolls out new Series 3 carts as stores change

Target’s new – Target says its new Series 3 all-plastic shopping carts are designed to last, be fully recyclable, and reduce waste by replacing individual components. The cart redesign is arriving gradually in select stores as Target also budgets about $5 billion to remodel
A shopper pushing a cart through Target may soon notice something simple but consequential: less wobble. more room. and a child seat built to feel steadier. Target is redesigning a key part of the in-store experience. rolling out new shopping carts designed to be “effortlessly functional. made to last and redesigned with a lower environmental footprint in mind.”.
The retailer’s announcement comes with a clear material claim. Target says its new carts are made with fully recyclable materials. and that individual components can be replaced rather than discarding the entire cart—an approach the company says “extending its lifespan and reducing the need to replace the full cart.”.
Target plans to introduce the carts under its Series 3 All Plastic Cart name, and says the rollout to select stores will happen over time, with some locations already offering the new carts.
The Series 3 carts are also built around specific, everyday changes shoppers may feel right away. Target says the new design includes smoother maneuverability and ergonomic handles. It also calls out a deeper, more comfortable and secure child seat, increased basket space, and larger cupholders.
Target, meanwhile, is changing far more than the carts. The retailer said earlier this month it plans to spend approximately $5 billion to remodel more than 130 stores and open 30 new stores in priority markets. Target described the effort as a “bigger transformation for our stores than at any point in the past decade.”.
Those store updates are intended to make navigation easier. with updated layouts Target says are “more intuitive.” In remodeled locations. some features will include an expanded dry grocery selection. and in some cases larger fresh and frozen foods sections. Target also points to modern decor and fixtures with specialty LED lighting.
The remodels will reach beyond browsing. Target says it will update spaces and expanded services to support Order Pickup. Drive Up and Exchanges & Returns. along with changes to traditional checkout and self-checkout lanes. It is also promising modernized guest amenities, including restrooms and designated nursing spaces.
In some stores, Target is introducing natural refrigeration systems, more efficient lighting and HVAC systems that help reduce emissions.
Together. the carts and the renovations land on the same promise: make shopping feel smoother. more navigable. and better suited to how customers buy today. Target’s senior vice president for store properties. Laurie Mahowald. said in the company’s news release. “We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”.
Target also said that what is new for guests will vary by location, as will the timing of each remodel.
