Swifties Spot Countdown, Stanton Says No Closing Song

After a brief 2 p.m. ET countdown appeared on Taylor Swift’s website on May 2—against a background fans say mirrors “Toy Story” wallpaper—Swifties connected the dots with her late-April New York outfit and a global “TS” billboard campaign. “Toy Story 5” direct

For one tense stretch on Taylor Swift’s website, a tiny countdown tugged at fans so hard they could barely let go—even after it disappeared.

On May 2, a mysterious timer was set to hit 2 p.m. ET. It sat atop a white cloud and pale blue wallpaper—an image Swifties quickly compared to the wallpaper seen in Andy’s bedroom across the “Toy Story” franchise. The countdown didn’t last. It vanished after about 10 minutes. But in that short window, fans grabbed screenshots and kept digging.

“I had never seen it before, and it surprised us,” “Toy Story 5” director Andrew Stanton said of the countdown after being asked about the theory circulating around it.

He added: “The sad truth is we watched the movie being mixed last week, and the song at the end of that was not Taylor Swift’s song.”

Stanton’s comments struck at the heart of the fan story—because for weeks, dedicated Swifties have been convinced Swift would debut a new track tied to “Toy Story 5,” despite the creative team’s denial on the closing song.

The theory didn’t form out of nowhere. After the countdown vanished, Swifties turned their focus to what Swift was wearing around that same time. In late April in New York City. she appeared in a full-spectrum “Toy Story 5” color match. fans noticed—wearing every color featured in the “Toy Story 5” poster. She was photographed in a blue and white stripped dress by Staud. carrying a yellow Dior lady bag. and finishing the look with bright red heels.

Then came the billboards—vague enough to tease, specific enough to feel deliberate. The campaign reportedly placed the letters “TS” in yellow against the same sort of blue and white cloud wallpaper, underneath the “Disney Pixar” banner.

Swifties didn’t just notice the letters. They counted the clouds: 13 clouds, a number fans associate with Swift as her lucky number. Billboards appeared around the globe, including in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada.

Stanton’s response left fans with a sharp contradiction to hold in their minds. Yes, he said the final song wasn’t Swift’s. But he didn’t say Swift couldn’t appear in the movie at another point—so the hope didn’t fully die. The theory shifted from “the closing track is hers” to “maybe she’s still involved, just not at the end.”.

With “Toy Story 5” set to hit theaters on June 19. the question hanging over everything is simple: was the countdown a coincidence. a misfire. or part of a bigger reveal?. For now. Swifties are still piecing together every clue they can reach—counting clouds. dissecting wardrobe choices. and rewatching the moment a timer briefly blinked into existence at 2 p.m. ET.
