When the Mets loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning, it looked like New York might finally snap Cincinnati’s momentum. They didn’t score then, and they didn’t score again in the fifth or the seventh either.

Instead, the Reds kept piling on. Suárez opened the game by launching a two-run homer to left field off starter Tobias Myers (0-2) to make it 3-0. Cincinnati then erupted in the second. scoring six runs—including Suárez’s grand slam to center off Jonathan Pintaro with two outs to make it 9-0. It was Suárez’s ninth career slam and the 24th multihomer game of his career.

Chase Burns (8-1) did the rest on the mound. He struck out six of the first seven batters he faced. allowed four hits. and finished five shutout innings with seven strikeouts. The Reds finished the job with three more relievers. combining for a six-hitter as Cincinnati earned its fifth shutout of the year. The 13-0 margin was Cincinnati’s most lopsided shutout since a 13-0 win against Philadelphia on April 15, 2023.

At the plate, JJ Bleday added a three-run shot for Cincinnati. Bo Bichette collected three hits for the Mets, who were blanked for the eighth time. New York’s 13-0 loss was their largest shutout defeat in eight seasons. and despite the bases-loaded threats in the fourth. fifth and seventh innings. they couldn’t turn any of them into runs.

Burns lowered his ERA to 2.01, and the game carried a rare statistical signature as well. According to Sportradar, it was the first time a National League team had a player and pitcher with at least six RBIs and six strikeouts in the first three innings of a game going back to 1920.

The turning point now shifts to what comes next for both teams. RHP Kodai Senga (0-4, 9.00 ERA) will be activated off the injured list Tuesday by the Mets to make his first start since April 26. Brady Singer (2-6, 5.61) is set to pitch for Cincinnati.
