Strong Winds, Cool Temperatures Thursday

If you’re heading out Thursday night into Friday morning, expect a shift—fast.
A strong cold front is dropping into Southern Nevada through Friday morning, and it comes with it: gusty north winds across the Las Vegas Valley. The main thing people will notice first is the wind picking up, not necessarily the sky. By the time Friday rolls around, this becomes the most noticeable weather day of the stretch.
Friday is marked as a First Alert Weather Day, and it really does feel like the “biggest impact” one on the map. The day turns noticeably cooler, with a high of only 70°. That cool-down comes alongside the strongest winds expected, especially in the Colorado River Valley near Laughlin and Bullhead City. Wind gusts could reach 50–60 mph in those areas, while 40–45 mph gusts are likely areawide. The strongest winds are expected through early Friday morning, then things start to improve by Friday afternoon and evening.
Still, improvement doesn’t mean calm. The Colorado River Valley will remain breezy into the weekend, so if you’re traveling down that way—especially near the river—it won’t be the kind of breezy that you forget after a few minutes. It’s more like that steady, practical reminder in your day: the air is moving.
Saturday and Sunday bring the relief everyone’s hoping for. High pressure rebuilds over the weekend, which means calmer conditions and warming temperatures. Saturday will see a high of 79° with lighter winds. Sunday warms up to 86°, with partly to mostly cloudy skies, and daytime highs rise back above normal again. It’s a pretty clear rebound after Friday—like the atmosphere just wants to exhale.
Monday then flips the calendar back toward another weather watch. First Alert Weather Day returns with a high of 88°. South to southwest winds develop ahead of a slow-moving low-pressure system off the California coast. As that system approaches, breezy to windy conditions build, with gusts pushing 40 mph.
Tuesday keeps that pattern going, with First Alert Weather Day continuing. The high stays at 83°, and southwest winds persist as the system moves into the region, with gusts holding around 40 mph. Wednesday is calmer by comparison, with a high of 77° and mountain shower chances in the forecast. Temperatures hold in the 70s through Friday, with slight shower chances primarily focused over the mountains. And in between all of that—between wind and warmth—one small real-world detail stands out: out in the desert, that first cold breeze has a very specific feel, like it’s cutting through the day faster than your brain expects. You notice it. Then you start planning around it, even if you don’t say so.
