Around 7 p.m. on June 7, Penn Station—a transit hub that serves hundreds of thousands of passengers every day—became the site of a sudden, violent attack. Fire crews and emergency medical services received a 911 call reporting that a person stabbed multiple people at the station.

The New York City Fire Department said the scene included one victim with a serious injury, two people with moderate injuries, and three with minor injuries. Five people were transported to Bellevue Hospital, while one person was transported to Cornell Hospital, according to the department.

Fire department officials said the suspect was taken into custody. The agency did not provide further details about the incident.

Amtrak Police were already responding as the situation unfolded. An Amtrak spokesperson said that earlier in the afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to a reported stabbing at New York Penn Station, adding that the suspect has been apprehended and that an investigation is underway.

The timing landed in a heightened-security window. The stabbings occurred a day before President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mandami were planned to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. which sits directly on top of Penn Station. In response to that visit, authorities increased security in the area and tightened protocols at the arena.

The sequence left authorities balancing two urgent tasks: responding to immediate medical needs and securing one of the busiest parts of the city. even as plans for a major high-profile event were already in motion. As of now, the fire department has not released additional information about the suspect or what led to the attack.

The New York City Police Department did not offer comment in the material reviewed, as an outreach was made for responses.

  1. How do 6 people get stabbed at a place that busy and they don’t even say a motive? Also is this the same guy Amtrak police talked about earlier? Feels like security did nothing.

  2. They say Trump and the mayor were going to MSG the next day and then security was tightened… so did the stabbing happen because of that? Like, you’d think heightened security would help, unless they were focused on the wrong station or something.

  3. Wait, one serious injury and then two moderate and three minor, so that’s like 6, right? But they shipped people to Bellevue and Cornell like it was a normal day. I just don’t get why nobody’s saying anything about the suspect yet, unless they’re still hiding details.
