Brother gives little sister MLB ball and gets big hug in return
During a Pirates-Rays game in Pittsburgh, a brother caught a ball and immediately handed it to his little sister, who responded with a big hug.
A rogue squirrel grabbed the spotlight in a showdown of teams desperately trying to stay relevant in the American League wild-card race.
As the Detroit Tigers faced the Baltimore Orioles at Comerica Park on Monday, July 27, a black squirrel managed to make its way onto the field. There was also a mourning dove, but the squirrel had more lasting power and provided unexpected entertainment.
The squirrel navigated the warning track, displaying the kind of speed that would make a racing mascot proud.
The squirrel eventually made it toward the infield, and stationed itself near Orioles third base coach Buck Britton, who appeared to share some sunflower seeds with the adventurous animal.
Before the bottom of the seventh inning, the Comerica Park grounds crew went out on the field in full force and managed to corral and remove the animal from the field. Orioles right fielder Leody Taveras even lent a hand, getting his glove on the squirrel, launching it into the air.
“I wasn’t trying to do that. But they got it out,” Taveras said after the game. “I hope it’s good.”
The squirrel’s speed, ability to swiftly change direction and low center of gravity made it tough to round up. Tigers play-by-play broadcaster Jason Benetti gave an enthusiastic account of the situation.
A rally squirrel it was not, however, as the Tigers fell 8-5, losing a third consecutive game.
