Spider-Noir Lands After The Boys’ Five-Season Exit

Spider-Noir replacement – Two weeks after The Boys finished its five-season run, Prime Video’s Spider-Noir has arrived as a superhero-sized replacement—jumping to the top of the streamer’s viewership charts and winning strong early reviews.
Two weeks after The Boys wrapped its five-season run, Prime Video has moved in fast with a superhero follow-up that’s already feeling inevitable: Spider-Noir premiered this week and immediately jumped straight to the top of the streamer’s viewership charts.
The show arrives with momentum on its side. too—excellent reviews are piling up. and Spider-Noir is a direct attempt to fill the gap left by a fifth season that left some critics and fans underwhelmed. It’s also going head-to-head with The Boys in a very immediate way. since the series ended only a couple of weeks ago.
Spider-Noir has another kind of advantage that’s hard to ignore: it’s built around Nicolas Cage, an Oscar-winner. The series marks his first television project, and his performance is already drawing tremendous acclaim. Cage’s connection to superheroes is longstanding. He once found himself on the verge of playing Superman in a movie directed by Tim Burton. He’s also owned Action Comics No. 1—the priceless comic book issue that featured Superman’s first-ever appearance—and he has a son named Kal-El.
Spider-Noir isn’t just a Cage vehicle, either. The eight-part series is a Spider-Verse spin-off, tied to the Spider-Verse movies in which Nicolas Cage voiced the character. Oren Uziel developed Spider-Noir, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller serving as executive producers.
The series is set in a film noir-inspired New York almost a century ago. Cage has described how he approached the role, drawing from 1940s movie stars such as James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart.
Early reactions are already lining up with that vibe. The show has been hailed as “a fun, pulpy superhero throwback” by Collider’s Aidan Kelley. On Rotten Tomatoes, Spider-Noir holds a “Certified Fresh” 91% score. The consensus reads: “Nicolas Cage delivers a gloriously pulpy performance that makes every quip and thwip crackle in Spider-Noir — a dazzling. stylish blend of hard-boiled storytelling and pure comic book verve.”.
Spider-Noir isn’t the only Prime Video show in the mix right now. It’s currently competing not only against The Boys’ post-finale attention, but also against the steamy romance series Off Campus, which took everyone by surprise as it delivered one of Prime Video’s biggest debuts.
For now, Spider-Noir’s charts are doing the talking. The question is how long the superhero momentum holds—especially with May 27. 2026 listed as its release date details and a creative team that includes showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot. along with director Harry Bradbeer under the MGM+ network listing.
And after The Boys closed its chapter, Cage’s noir-flavored arrival is the kind of replacement viewers didn’t just want—they’re already watching.

So it’s basically Spider-Man but noir? Cool I guess.
I didn’t even know The Boys ended already lol. But Nicolas Cage in a superhero show sounds weird and I’m kind of here for it. If it’s topping charts already, must be better than whatever I expected.
Wait Spider-Noir is connected to Spider-Verse, so is that the same continuity as the movies? Because I thought Cage voiced Superman or something? Also didn’t he buy Action Comics #1 like… for real? That’s wild but I’m still skeptical it can “replace” The Boys. Different vibe.
I feel like Prime just throws stuff on the screen to fill the void the second The Boys ends. Two weeks is way too fast, like they already had it queued up. But also, Spider-Noir with Cage and that noir New York thing… sounds like a Tim Burton accident waiting to happen. The review wording is confusing though, “pulpy superhero” like is it comedy or dark? idk I’ll watch the first ep.
