Gerard Butler’s Greenland 2 Turns Streaming Charts

Gerard Butler’s Greenland 2: Migration didn’t light up theaters, but it’s finding a second life on streaming—staying on charts for over 120 days, topping domestic lists on HBO Max, and deepening its post-apocalyptic audience appeal.
Gerard Butler may be best known for taking audiences on big-screen rides, from 300 to Law Abiding Citizen and the Has Fallen franchise. But with Greenland 2: Migration, the sci-fi survival sequel is doing something very different—building momentum away from theaters and straight through streaming.
Earlier this year, Greenland 2: Migration, the sequel to 2020’s hit, arrived without the box-office lift that fans likely expected. The feature—directed by Ric Roman Waugh. written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. and produced by Basil Iwanyk. Gerard Butler. Alan Siegel. John Zois. Sebastien Raybaud. and Brendon Boyea—grossed only $44.8 million worldwide. which is less than half of its $90 million budget. The movie also didn’t pull in theatergoers the way its predecessor did.
Still, Greenland 2 didn’t fade. It first shone on PVOD platforms, then moved on to settle into various streaming charts. The shift has been measurable: Greenland 2: Migration has been on streaming charts for over 120 days, as reported by FlixPatrol. On Prime Video and Apple TV Store, the film has completed over 120 days. It also recently arrived on HBO Max, where it is at the top of domestic charts.
The reason audiences appear to be sticking around is simple: the story is built for endurance. The film is set five years after the events of the original movie. following the surviving Garrity family as they leave the safety of the Greenland bunker to travel across a frozen wasteland in search of a new home.
Critical reception didn’t help it win over theater crowds. Critics gave Greenland 2: Migration a 49% Rotten Tomatoes score, while audiences were more forgiving with a 66% rating. In streaming terms. that gap matters—because it often signals a film that clicks once viewers can watch at their own pace.
The movie’s center also feels engineered for emotional staying power. The core chemistry between Butler. Morena Baccarin. and Roman Griffin Davis—who took over the role of their son. Nathan—is described as the heart of the feature. When the world around them is breaking down, that family bond becomes the engine.
With streaming still pulling in attention, the film now has clear places to land. Greenland 2: Migration is available on Prime Video and HBO Max.
One key detail completes the picture for viewers checking it out: the release date is January 9, 2026, and the runtime is 98 minutes.

Wait so it flopped in theaters but it’s still number 1 somewhere?? Seems like fake news charts honestly.
I watched the first one on like a random night and it was actually decent. Not surprised this one sticks around on streaming if people just binge it. Also $44.8 million sounds… low? How did they make it for $90 mil then.
The way they worded it makes it sound like it was 120 days on HBO Max only, but it says Prime too. Confusing. And if critics gave it 49% then it’s probably garbage, but viewers liked it so idk.
Gerard Butler really out here doing the same survival movie formula again, and somehow it works on streaming. I’m pretty sure Rotten Tomatoes audience scores don’t matter though, it’s all bots or whatever. Also isn’t Greenland like, the place not the movie title?? Feels like they’re just milking the brand.
