Six workers injured in incident at Ford Field following Ed Sheeran concert Saturday night

DETROIT – Six people were hurt Saturday night in the load-out after the Ed Sheeran concert at Ford Field. Photos given to Local 4 show the accident involving equipment being used to tear down the stage.
Local 4 spoke to one of the workers who was hit by one of the pieces of equipment. He was released from the hospital on Sunday after being there overnight. He asked to stay anonymous, but another worker in the building sent photos of what things looked like after the accident.
“Chief 1, respond to a special,” fire dispatch audio from Saturday night says.
In it, crews being sent to the scene around 11 p.m. can be heard.
Local 4 is told the equipment in the photo lost control as the stage was being torn down near the vehicle tunnel.
“2000 Brush, between East Adams and East Montcalm for a forklift injury accident,” the audio said.
It happened after the concert and several workers there said they were walking toward a different area of the stadium to take a break during their shift.
They say they were near a ramp when the equipment lost control and hit several of them.
Local 4 spoke to one worker who was hit in the chest and says he’s never experienced anything like that – saying it happened in a split second.
“Chief 1, it’s reported at Ford Field, Chief 1,” the audio said.
The Detroit Fire Department tells us all of the workers were taken to nearby hospitals.
Of those transported, they said no injuries appear to be life-threatening.
At the time of transport, two patients were in serious condition and four were in stable condition.
Ford Field tells us one of the people injured was on their team.
“Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners,” the stadium said. “Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response.”
Ed Sheeran was in town here for a few nights and Saturday night was his final show in the city.
