Pollo Asado is back at Chipotle and diners will also soon have a new side item to try the protein with.

The fast casual Mexican restaurant chain announced Aug. 31 Pollo Asado is back for a limited time with an all-new recipe featuring “freshly grilled adobo chicken seasoned with garlic, Mexican spices and hand-cut cilantro” and finished with citrus and lime for a “savory, smoky flavor.”

Customers can get the protein at all U.S. and Canada Chipotle restaurants beginning Aug. 31 for a limited time. Pollo Asado was first introduced nationwide in 2022 following a successful test run at 95 locations in Sacramento and Cincinnati in 2021.

To celebrate the return of Pollo Asado, Chipotle is offering free delivery on Pollo Asado orders placed through the Chipotle app and website from Aug. 31 through Sept. 13.

The Chili Lime Chips, on the other hand, will be available exclusively for Chipotle Rewards members beginning Aug. 31 before they become available to all customers on Sept. 4.

Chipotle says the side item was inspired by a “viral fan food hack” where diners would use packaged seasoned chips to put their own spin on Chipotle meals. The chain says the chips are made with “real ingredients and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.”

Cardi B appears to accidentally leak new chips

Rapper Cardi B appeared to accidentally leak the news of Chipotle’s new Chili Lime Chips on social media before its official launch date.

TMZ posted a screen recording of Cardi B’s Instagram Live on Aug. 27 where she appeared to promote the new side item. Someone off camera tells her that she wasn’t supposed to tell the public yet to which she replies, “I wasn’t supposed to tell y’all about the chips because the chips come out on Monday. Oops! My bad! I’m too excited!”

It is not immediately clear if the rapper is part of the promotion for the new item.

Chipotle offers Sunday deal

On Sunday, Sept. 6, customers who order two or more entrées after 3 p.m. local time on the Chipotle app or website can receive a free entrée using code “SUNDAYS.”

The offer is part of an ongoing back-to-school promotion the company has been running for weeks now.

“Back-to-school season is all about showing your school spirit and getting back into the routines that make the week feel a little easier,” said Stephanie Perdue, senior vice president of brand marketing at Chipotle, in the news release. “Whether you’re repping your school or resetting with Chipotle on a Sunday, these offers are about meeting our guests in the moments that matter to them with real food and great value.”
