Serena Williams’ Wimbledon doubles match pushed to July 4

Tournament organizers rescheduled Serena Williams’ Wimbledon doubles match with her sister Venus to Saturday, July 4, citing extra recovery time after a right knee tweak in her singles opener. The sisters’ original Friday plan was moved after late changes tied

Serena Williams walked onto Wimbledon grass expecting a long season, not a detour from a right knee tweak. After her singles loss on Thursday, she now faces a different kind of test: whether her body can hold through the tournament’s most meaningful reunion, her doubles match with Venus.

The match has been pushed to Saturday, July 4. Wimbledon organizers made the change to give Serena additional recovery time following her recent knee injury in singles play.

Serena. competing at Wimbledon for the first time in nearly four years. revealed that she tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set during her singles opening-round match. She fell to Maya Joint, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3. The injury came at a key moment late in the opener, when momentum could have tipped her way.

Still, Serena quickly tried to steady her comeback hopes. She posted on Instagram that she would do “everything I can to be ready for doubles.” In the same message. she reflected on being back at the All England Club: “It felt so good to be back on the grass at Wimbledon.” She also wrote that she was “incredibly thankful for the wild card. ” and added that her daughters got to see that “it’s never too late to chase something you love.”.

The sisters’ first-round doubles match was originally set for Friday, July 3, against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra. But late changes forced a postponement, moving the timing to Saturday. Tournament director Jamie Baker said the decision came after considering multiple factors, including scheduling logistics, player health, and fan safety.

“We are giving her as much time, obviously, we want her to play if she possibly can,” Baker said.

Baker also emphasized the crowd risk behind the shift. With the expected surge in attendance for the Williams sisters’ much-anticipated reunion on the doubles court, fan safety became a “huge consideration,” according to the explanation tied to the rescheduling.

As of July 3, the Williams sisters are scheduled to play on Saturday, July 4. The exact start time has not been announced.

The sequence is clear: Serena’s right knee tweak in singles triggered a need for more recovery. and Wimbledon’s scheduling decision—shifting the match from Friday to Saturday—was designed to protect both the player’s chances and the safety of the larger crowd expected for a Williams-family moment on court.
