Rico Nasty sets July 24 release for RX

Rico Nasty’s new album RX lands July 24, produced with Kenneth Blume, featuring the new song “Cupcake.” The project was recorded while she filmed her Apple TV+ debut on Margot’s Got Money Troubles and reunites key creative threads from their earlier work.

Rico Nasty’s next era arrives with a date and a beat you can’t ignore. She announced her new album, RX, will drop on July 24, with Kenneth Blume—formerly known as Kenny Beats—handling production. Alongside the announcement. she released “Cupcake. ” a fast. punchy track that plays like a wink to pop royalty and a return to Nasty’s own center.

“Cupcake” includes Nasty rapping: “My box heart shape, Nirvana/ Like a virgin, Madonna.” It comes after the previously released single “Rituals,” which is also included on the album.

The timing of RX’s reveal practically invites comparison to wider pop calendar events. On the same day. the announcement landed as Madonna’s CONFESSIONS II was getting its own attention—RX was framed with “Cupcake” immediately. as if Nasty wanted the first impression to hit before any other conversation could begin.

RX was recorded while Nasty was filming her Apple TV+ debut on Margot’s Got Money Troubles. The series stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, and Lindsey Normington, and Nasty is among the cast.

Nasty and Blume’s creative relationship stretches beyond this record. They previously worked together on the Anger Management mixtape in 2019, and again on “SMACK A BITCH” from 2020’s Nightmare Vacation. For RX, 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady also contributed to the new record and produced “Kiss N Makeup.”

In a statement, Rico Nasty explained what she was chasing going into RX. “I missed someone that was honest with me,” she said. “And I missed someone who knew me back then, before I had any success. I felt like if I’m going to get back to doing me. I should go back to someone who can be real with me. somebody who’s not too serious or draining.”.

Blume, meanwhile, described the collaboration in terms of familiarity and momentum. “From the day we met. no one has made me laugh harder or pushed me further out of my comfort zone. RX feels like homecoming. This project is a reminder of where she came from. what made us all fans; and a scary look at how much better she KEEPS getting.”.

The album’s release is now locked in. with RX cover artwork already in motion and a tracklist that shows how varied the world around Nasty’s voice can be while still sounding like it belongs together. The tracklist runs: 1. CDG Foams 2. Frenzy 3. Rotation 4. Cupcake 5. Blow Your Nose 6. Runway 7. Butthead 8. Kiss N Makeup 9. Rituals.

  1. So is Rico Nasty just gonna be dropping songs while filming that Apple show? I saw Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer and was like wait what does that have to do with rap 😂

  2. I don’t get the comparison thing… Madonna is getting attention too so now Rico has to “beat” it? Like music news always finds a way to make it a competition. Also Kenneth Blume used to be someone else? I thought that was like a DJ name not a producer.

  3. Madonna CONFESSIONS II on the same day and they’re like “first impression”?? okay but the lyrics in Cupcake got me like “Nirvana / Like a virgin”?? girl is really mixing everyone. I’m confused if that’s supposed to be a diss or a love letter. Either way I’m gonna listen.
