Samsung Wallet adds CLEAR digital IDs for TSA

CLEAR members can now add their CLEAR digital ID to Samsung Wallet for use at TSA checkpoints. The change arrives as the TSA accepts digital IDs at more than 250 airports and builds on the way CLEAR already offers expedited identity verification at security li

By the time the line starts moving. the hardest part of airport travel often isn’t the flight—it’s the moment your ID and boarding pass need to be produced. checked. and double-checked. Now. Samsung users with a CLEAR membership can bypass one step of that routine by using a digital ID stored on their phone.

CLEAR digital IDs can now be added to Samsung Wallet for identity verification at TSA checkpoints. The partnership is designed to make the verification process easier for Samsung users, with TSA accepting digital IDs at more than 250 airports.

Samsung framed the update as a tradeoff travelers usually want: less fumbling for physical documents. more reliance on secure digital verification. Woncheol Chai. EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team. Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. said in a statement that the company is “thrilled to partner with CLEAR to bring CLEAR ID to Samsung Wallet.” He added that enabling users to leave their physical IDs in their bag and rely on secure digital identity is meant to combine convenience with security to help travelers “get where they’re going.”.

CLEAR ID is already accepted at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints. and the TSA says digital IDs can be used at more than 250 airports. Samsung users can also obtain a CLEAR ID, with the company’s website outlining steps to receive one. The integration also follows a pathway CLEAR has already supported: CLEAR IDs were previously able to be uploaded into Apple Wallets.

Caryn Seidman Becker, CLEAR CEO, said in a statement that embedding CLEAR’s secure identity platform into Samsung Wallet makes verification “easier than ever,” describing Samsung ID with CLEAR as a “simple, secure ID in the palm of your hand.”

For travelers. the practical promise of CLEAR has less to do with the existence of a digital ID and more to do with how that verification fits into the airport’s layout. CLEAR members can skip the standard security line where an airport agent checks an ID and boarding pass. and instead be personally escorted to an expedited security line where their identification is verified.

The added options extend beyond these two companies. Many states also offer digital IDs or driver’s licenses that can be used at TSA checkpoints.

CLEAR ID itself is free, but using the expedited escort requires an individual CLEAR+ membership. That membership starts at $209 per year, and it includes access for travelers traveling with children under 18 as well.

As airports continue leaning into digital identity tools. the shift from “show your documents” to “show your verified identity” is becoming more common. Here. the TSA’s acceptance of digital IDs at more than 250 airports meets a broader push by identity and wallet providers to move verification onto phones—starting with the CLEAR integration now available through Samsung Wallet.
