The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control have reopened their investigation into a salmonella outbreak involving products that contain imported moringa leaf powder. The agencies’ earlier probe had been closed after 97 people across 32 states became sick. leading to 26 hospitalizations—but infections linked to the same category of superfood supplements continued to appear in states around the country.
An additional 22 illnesses in four new states were reported after the case closed on March 17, prompting the restart of federal oversight. With the reopened investigation, the total now stands at 119 people sick across 36 states, with 32 hospitalizations.
Recalls began on Jan. 15, when the Live it Up brand voluntarily recalled its products “out of an abundance of caution” after investigators traced outbreaks to its supplements. Why Not Natural later added one of its products to the recall list in a Jan. 28 action.
In the latest update, brands TNVitamins and Doctor’s Pride were also added to the list of affected products. Both are manufactured by Deer Park, New York-based Total Nutrition Inc., extending the scope of what consumers are being asked to check at home.
Because the supplements have long shelf lives, federal health authorities are urging consumers to look for the specific recalled items even if they believe they have not purchased them recently.
Exposure to salmonella can be especially dangerous for vulnerable groups, including children, older adults and those with compromised immune systems.
The recalls and the states now linked to the outbreak have real-world implications beyond the kitchen table. For families who believed the danger had passed, the message now is blunt: check what’s in the pantry, and treat symptoms seriously.
Federal officials say the recalled products include several lines under Live it Up-brand Super Greens. including both original and wild berry flavors. All stick pack products—packaged in tube-like containers—are also recalled. along with Live it Up items with expiration dates between August 2026 and January 2028.
The supplements were sold nationwide, primarily online, on Live it Up’s website and Amazon. The FDA notice also says they may have been sold by unauthorized third-party sellers, including Walmart.

The recalled Live it Up products are packaged in green pouches. The lot code is printed on the bottom back of the packaging in black and begins with the letter “A” or the number “3” for a stick pack product, the FDA said.
Why Not Natural recalled its Why Not Natural Organic Moringa – Green Superfood supplements as part of the outbreak. These capsules were sold nationwide on Why Not’s website and third-party sellers, including Amazon, between July 2025 and January 2026.

Total Nutrition Inc. is the company behind the newest additions to the probe. The firm recalled TNVitamins-brand and Doctor’s Pride-brand Superfood Moringa capsules, sold nationwide on Total Nutrition and Doctor’s Pride websites, as well as Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop and Target.
For TNVitamins, the recalled product is listed as:

The distribution footprint of the outbreak is wide. After the FDA and CDC investigation closed on March 17, 22 new illnesses were reported from four states, bringing the total to 119 infected people across 36 states.

The agency also advises cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces that may have come in contact with the product. Consumers who have purchased Why Not Natural Moringa Capsules should stop consuming them and return the products to the company for a refund. The FDA says consumers may contact Why Not Natural for a full refund at care@whynotnatural.com.
For impacted Total Nutrition products, the FDA advises disposing of them immediately and contacting TNVitamins at customerservice@tnvitamins.com with your name, order number and a photo of the product—including the lot code—to receive a refund.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning usually start six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, according to the CDC.
Most healthy people can recover in four to seven days without treatment, federal health guidance says. But vulnerable groups—including children under 5, adults 65 and older, and those with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illness requiring medical treatment or hospitalization.
