A heat advisory is in effect across South Florida today, with possible “feels-like” temperatures of over 100 degrees forecast for parts of the region.
The advisory, which covers eastern parts of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, will last from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on July 29, according to the National Weather Service office in Miami. Maximum afternoon temperatures in South Florida will reach the low to mid 90s, with a predicted feels-like temperature of 109 degrees in Miami, 107 degrees in Fort Lauderdale and 112 degrees in West Palm Beach.
Isolated showers and storms are expected across the area this afternoon, according to the NWS, and could “mitigate some heat impacts.” Still, major heat risk will remain “a concern.”

Saharan dust has also begun to arrive in South Florida, according to the agency, which dampens rain chances and leads to higher actual temperatures and feels-like temperatures.
It’s a “common occurrence” in the region between late June and the middle of August, as winds push dust west across the Atlantic. Though it reduces overall chances of rain, the dust can “support a greater threat of isolated severe storms.”
