Rookie WR Germie Bernard credits Aaron Rodgers mentorship

Steelers second-round rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard says Aaron Rodgers has been pouring into him since returning to Pittsburgh—teaching him the game, helping him catch up, and fueling expectations that the 2026 finale could come with a stronger impact on

At Germie Bernard’s youth football camp, the message was simple and immediate: the rookie receiver is learning from Aaron Rodgers, and he’s doing it day by day.

Bernard—drafted by the Steelers in the second round of this year’s draft—said Rodgers has taken him under his wing since the quarterback decided to return to Pittsburgh. “Coming in as a rookie and him being an NFL vet. man. he’s just teaching me the game. ” Bernard said via Fox54 in Huntsville. Alabama.

Bernard described how the mentorship is translating into his daily approach. Rodgers, he said, is helping him catch up because he believes Bernard has the potential to play. “He’s helping me catch up because he thinks I have the potential to play. He’s just pouring into me as much as he can,” Bernard said. “I just ask questions and I try to learn, be a sponge as much as I can. Receive what they’re telling me because they know the best. they’ve been played the game for a long time.”.

Rodgers, for his part, is planning for the 2026 season to be his final one as an NFL player. For Bernard. the practical impact is clear: learning from a quarterback like Rodgers is expected to smooth his transition into the professional ranks. with the rookie’s presence offering another piece to the Steelers’ offense.

The Steelers have added multiple playmakers around that mentorship. The rookie joined the team alongside Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf, giving Pittsburgh more offensive firepower than it had last season—and setting the stage for a more productive final run from Rodgers.

The story right now is about timing and trust. Bernard is stepping into a pro system with an elite veteran actively investing in his growth, while Rodgers is preparing for a last season that could depend on how quickly those new connections translate into production.

  1. Wait so Bernard got drafted and Rodgers is teaching him, but also “2026 finale”?? Is that like a Super Bowl thing or just wording in the article. Either way sounds good for Steelers.

  2. I don’t buy it. Rodgers “helping him catch up” sounds like PR speak. Half these rookies say the same thing and then they’re on the bench by week 3. Also I thought Pittman was on a different team, so maybe this is all mixed up.

  3. Aaron Rodgers is returning to Pittsburgh again?? like he just got there yesterday. Steelers keep loading up with guys and Rodgers says it’ll be his last season, which means everybody’s hyped but also… pressure. If Bernard is a “sponge” and asking questions, cool, but I wanna see catches in real games not just quotes on Fox54.
