Jeffery Simmons embraces new role after contract extension
Jeffery Simmons says his three-year, $105.8 million extension reflects confidence he can thrive in Tennessee’s “attack defense,” with Robert Saleh’s philosophy pushing him to play more from the other side of the line of scrimmage.
Jeffery Simmons didn’t sound worried about the weight of a new deal—he sounded energized by a new way of playing.
The Titans made it clear last week they expect defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to continue at a high level, and the next step matched that belief. Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension that keeps him under contract in Tennessee through the 2030 season.
The question that comes with long-term money is whether production can stay consistent once a veteran is locked in. Simmons pointed to a specific reason he thinks the answer will be yes. Hiring head coach Robert Saleh, he said, is built to help him do more than maintain his current output.
“It’s kind of my first year playing in an attack defense,” Simmons said via the team’s website. “That’s my game. I like to play on the other side of the line of scrimmage . . . I love this type of defense. to be able to be on the other side of the line of scrimmage each and every play. It demands you to make plays. I love this philosophy. and think it will help me make a lot more plays in the backfield. and it will help this team for sure.”.
Last season. Simmons backed up the idea that he’s at his best when he’s creating pressure and putting opponents on their heels. He set career highs with 11 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. doing it without playing in an “attack defense.” Now. with that style coming into focus. the Titans’ plan is simple: turn his instincts loose more often and keep the impact climbing.
If Simmons is right. the extension isn’t just a reward for what he already produced—it’s a bet on where he can go next. Turning a 2025 peak into sustained force in 2026 starts with the same thing he emphasized: playing each snap with a mindset that puts him on the other side of the line of scrimmage. where every play asks him to make something happen in the backfield.

So they gave him 105.8 mil and now he’s excited to do… the same thing? lol
I don’t get it, “attack defense” sounds like they’re just blitzing more? Titans fans gonna be disappointed when he gets double teamed anyways.
Saleh philosophy?? Isn’t that the coach from the Jets, right? Thought he was a db guy, not defense tackle stuff. Either way 11 sacks and 17 TFL is nice, but money doesn’t magically make pressure.
Contract through 2030 is wild, like he’s gonna keep doing tackles for loss forever. Also the article says “other side of the line of scrimmage each and every play” like that’s easy… defenses are confusing. Bet they think 2026 is his best year, because of course they do.
