Freddie Freeman was positioned at first to receive it. and the sequence did what the best defensive work always does—quietly erased the threat.
The payoff came quickly after. The Dodgers won the game 1-0, pushing their season record to 41-23 and keeping them on top of the National League West.
Freeman’s night didn’t stop at defense. He also delivered the walk-off home run that decided the game. For the Dodgers. it was the first time a player had hit a walk-off home run for a 1-0 victory since Yasmani Grandal did so on May 3. 2015. It also marked the first 1-0 walk-off blast in the Majors since Christian Encarnacion-Strand accomplished the feat on August 18, 2023.
Rising from the celebration, Freeman’s importance to the franchise’s recent era was impossible to miss. He has been a key part of the team’s run to World Series titles in 2024 and 2025, and this season he now has 10 home runs.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts put the feeling into a simple sentence after the game. “Freddie just has that aura,” Roberts said. “There’s not too many guys in baseball that you’d want up in a game-winning situation. And Freddie does it once again. It’s pretty remarkable how he can kind of want to be that guy and come through as many times as he does.”.
At the plate, Freeman has also been swinging with real momentum lately. When asked about it, he didn’t pitch a complicated explanation. “I wish I had the exact answer,” Freeman said. “You know, sometimes you just go through stretches where you just feel good. Obviously I’ve been feeling good lately. I was tweaking a lot of things early on, just trying to find a consistent spot, feel for things. And sometimes it’s just, get a couple hits and you get some confidence to get going. So nothing really crazy. It’s the same routine … and things have been working.”.
The Dodgers and Angels are set to meet again on Saturday night, with the same tension still hanging in the air—because on Friday, Los Angeles didn’t just win. It did it with one of those all-around nights where a highlight from the infield turns into a moment you remember long after the inning ends.
