Asjha Cooper’s arrival on Starz’s Power franchise didn’t stay mysterious for long.
The actress was introduced as Tiana in Power Book III: Raising Kanan’s season five, episode three. In the next episode, which aired Friday (July 3), Tiana’s true identity was revealed: her real name is Jarita.
In that Friday episode, Tiana—who had been presented as a call girl working for Flossie Siegel (Leslie Grossman)—told Kanan that Jarita is who she really is.
Power fans know Jarita well. She’s Kanan’s love interest, first appearing in the OG show’s second season. In that run, Jarita was played by Tasha Smith across three episodes, and she’s also the mother of Kanan’s son, Shawn Stark.
Cooper’s Jarita will stick around. She’ll continue in the role as a guest star throughout the remainder of Raising Kanan’s final season, then reprise the character in the upcoming spinoff series Power: Origins.
Power: Origins will bring Jarita back alongside Kanan Stark actor Mekai Curtis. with Asjha Cooper set for a series regular capacity. The spinoff is described as following “Ghost. Tommy and Kanan as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise. determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.”.
Filming is currently underway on the fourth spinoff in the franchise in New Jersey.
The new series will see three Power franchise stars reprising their roles, with 13 other new additions joining alongside Asjha Cooper.
