Rafaela’s RBI surge keeps Red Sox afloat at home

Ceddanne Rafaela delivered the two-run hit the Red Sox needed Saturday, while extending a hot stretch that has seen him come up with timely RBIs and carry hope in a tough 2026 season.
Boston fans got a familiar feeling Saturday night: relief arriving late, when it matters most.
In the bottom of the seventh inning. Ceddanne Rafaela came through with a clutch single with two outs. driving home two runs and giving the Red Sox a lead. After the game, Rafaela said he always wants to be in those moments. “I always want to be in those moments. to help my team out. it feels good to be able to help them out. ” he said. “Every win matters, especially at home, we want the fans to be happy.”.
It was the kind of at-bat Boston has leaned on more often lately. largely because Rafaela has been producing when the pressure ramps up. Fellow outfielder Jarren Duran wasn’t surprised to see him come through. “I’m never worried when it’s him,” Duran said of Rafaela’s RBI knock. “There’s nobody else I want up at the plate right now. In any situation where we need to come up clutch or something like that. he’s the guy. he’s got literally ice in his veins. “He was born for these moments.”.
Rafaela’s recent output is hard to ignore. He has eight RBIs in his last three games, and he logged five hits in two games against the Rangers, including a home run. The rest of the season’s story has followed the same direction: improvement that didn’t come all at once, but has steadily solidified.
Rafaela has been worth every bit of the 8-year, $50 million contract extension he agreed to in April 2024. Even with the disruption that comes from switching positions multiple times—and spending some time as a utility player off the bench—he has continued progressing into 2026 as one of Boston’s best all-around players.
His defense has shown Gold Glove capability throughout the years. and the offense. once more uneven. has turned into a real strength. In 2024, Rafaela hit .246 with a .664 OPS. In 2025, he was only slightly better, batting .249 with a .708 OPS. But in 2026, the numbers have jumped: he is batting .287 with a .457 slugging and an .801 OPS. He has seven home runs already, putting him close to matching last season’s season-high of 16.
All of this matters even more when you remember the uncertainty that surrounded the deal at the time. Rafaela signed early after coming up with less than 30 major league games under his belt. an unproven prospect profile that made the extension a real gamble. Now. at an average salary of $6.25 million per season. he has proven he can be a valuable starting center fielder in MLB.
For a Red Sox team going through a gloomy 2026 season, there’s one bright spot that keeps showing up in the right places: Rafaela’s confidence at the plate—and the way he has made big moments feel almost inevitable at home.

Rafaela always clutch? Next game will be the test lol.
Wait it says he has ice in his veins?? That’s kind of corny but okay. Also 8 RBIs in 3 games is insane, I didn’t even know he was that hot.
So like did he change positions or did he just magically start hitting. I saw something about him being utility and then suddenly he’s Gold Glove and all that. Boston better keep him, because contracts usually go bad for them. If he hits .287 then whatever happened to the pitching, just saying.
I’m happy for the fans but this headline makes it sound like one single hit saved the whole season. Like RBIs in a home game doesn’t fix everything. Also 8-year deal?? That’s a lot of years for a guy who was “unproven” like 2 minutes ago. I’ll believe it when he does it in June too.
