Raducanu withdraws from Wimbledon 2026 with injury

Raducanu withdraws – Emma Raducanu withdrew from Wimbledon 2026 late on Sunday after deciding to follow doctors’ advice, adding another painful injury chapter to a career repeatedly interrupted since her US Open triumph in 2019.

For most of Sunday, the question around Emma Raducanu wasn’t about how she might play Wimbledon—it was about whether she could.

As the day went on, she held off on a decision because, like any British player, she didn’t want to miss Wimbledon. But in the end, the call came late: she pulled out, saying she ultimately had to listen to the advice from doctors.

It is the latest blow in a career that has been repeatedly shaped by injury problems since her fairytale US Open victory in New York five years ago.

In 2025, bone bruising on her right foot ended her season in October. The injury also limited her work in the off-season, shaping how prepared she could be for what came next.

When she did find a rhythm, it didn’t last long. After reaching the Transylvanian Open final in February, she picked up a viral illness that meant she only played six matches from early February to the start of Queen’s earlier this month.

Those setbacks have come after moments that briefly revived hope. Her run to the Queen’s final bred confidence and increased optimism she could have a successful Wimbledon—one where she has reached the fourth round in 2021 and 2024.

At Wimbledon this time, she looked relatively upbeat given the circumstances. Still, the withdrawal lands as another hugely frustrating moment, the kind of reminder that positivity can survive heartbreak for a while—but not forever.

At the French Open last month, an emotional Raducanu said maintaining a positive mindset can be difficult with the number of obstacles she has endured. That admission now resonates again: for her, it has become a familiar cycle—one step forward, followed by a setback.

In the same spirit, she has leaned on the people around her. “I have great people around me. I have amazing support from my team, from my family, from my friends. It means a lot,” she said. “Being around positive people, around positive influences, it’s always going to help through tough times.”

With this latest pullout, the focus shifts back to recovery. But the question that follows her—what happens next, and how long she can stay healthy—will be waiting as soon as the next tournament calendar turns.

  1. I feel like they always say “listen to doctors” but tennis injuries never get better, it’s like a cycle. Bone bruising on the right foot and then a viral illness too?? That’s rough.

  2. Wait so she withdrew because she didn’t want to miss Wimbledon? That sentence confused me. Like wouldn’t doctors be the whole reason she misses? Also I thought she was fine at the Queen’s final, unless that was a different tournament in the UK or something.

  3. This is why I don’t get why people hype her up so much. Ever since that US Open thing it’s just injury then illness then “positive mindset” speeches. Hope she recovers but what happens next if her foot is always acting up? Wimbledon ain’t gonna wait around, sadly.
