President Donald Trump will be the honorary chairman at the 2026 Presidents Cup, the PGA Tour announced on Saturday, Aug. 29. The tournament will be held Sept. 22-27 at Medinah Country Club in Chicago.
Trump also held the role for the 2017 competition at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey and was part of the trophy presentation. The United States beat the international team, 19-11.
“The Presidents Cup has a proud tradition of engaging world leaders from across the globe and across political lines, and President Trump’s involvement continues that legacy,” PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said in a statement. “His participation will help elevate the event on the international stage while furthering our mission of bringing people together through the game of golf.”
The Presidents Cup is a team tournament featuring 12 golfers from the United States and 12 from around the world. Brandt Snedeker will be the captain for the U.S. team while Geoff Ogilvy, who is from Australia, will lead the international team.
“This will be a particularly exciting event,” Trump said in a statement. “Both teams are ‘loaded’ with Talent. I look forward to being there, and greeting all of these fantastic athletes, on both teams!”
There have been six other U.S. presidents to hold the role of honorary chairman at the Presidents Cup: Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford.
Trump has made several appearances at sports events this summer, including at Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the World Cup final and the IndyCar Freedom 250.
