A new forward has found his way to Nashville after the Nashville Predators struck a trade with the New York Rangers on Saturday.
The Predators acquired Adam Edstrom from the Rangers in a deal announced by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Chris MacFarland. New York received forward Massimo Rizzo along with a fifth-round pick, the 148th overall selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Edstrom, 25, comes to Nashville after appearing in 35 games with the Rangers during the 2025-26 season. He totaled five points—3 goals and 2 assists—while averaging 9:28 of ice time per game. He also recorded 2 penalty minutes during that stretch. The trade is also a homecoming of sorts to the Rangers’ pipeline: Edstrom was originally selected by New York in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Over his NHL career with the Rangers, Edstrom has played 97 games, scoring 10 goals and 16 points. During the 2024-25 campaign, he ranked among New York forwards with 34 blocked shots (fifth) and 94 hits (sixth). Across his career, Edstrom has compiled 58 blocked shots and 189 hits in those 97 NHL appearances.
There’s another storyline wrapped into this move—timing and health. Edstrom’s 2025-26 season was impacted by a fractured ankle that sidelined him from December to March. He also missed time due to injury during a 51-game season in which his role was disrupted. After returning in March. he was scratched for a large portion of games as he fell out of the lineup under head coach Mike Sullivan.
Contractually, Edstrom is entering the second season of a two-year deal signed in June 2025. The contract carries a $1.95 million total value and a $975,000 cap hit, and it will expire with Edstrom becoming a restricted free agent.
Before his NHL days, Edstrom built his production in the AHL and Sweden. With Hartford between 2022 and 2024, he recorded 17 points—12 goals and 5 assists—in 43 AHL games. Prior to coming to North America. the Karlstad. Sweden native posted 48 points—23 goals and 25 assists—in 189 Swedish Hockey League games with Rogle BK. He was also part of a Champions Hockey League-winning team in 2021-22.
For Nashville, the acquisition swaps in a player who has shown two-way bite in his stats while also carrying the uncertainty of recent injuries. For New York, the return is a restricted free agent in Massimo Rizzo, who is not expected to receive a qualifying offer, plus the 148th overall pick.
Rizzo put up 22 points in 29 ECHL games with the Reading Royals during his time there. He also recorded 5 points in 14 AHL games split between the Providence Bruins and Milwaukee Admirals.
The trade shifts forward depth in both directions—Nashville adding a Rangers-developed option with an NHL scoring track record, and New York clearing space while taking Rizzo and a future selection into its offseason plans.
