Early Wednesday morning, Marblehead police were called to Marblehead High School’s football field on Humphrey Avenue, where they found a damaged access gate and markings on the field indicating that a set of cars had driven across it.
Police said the field did not have significant damage. In a preliminary investigation, Marblehead police determined that two vehicles were involved and were able to get a description of both vehicles.
Later that morning, the department was sent to Grace Oliver’s Beach for a report of a car submerged in the ocean. Police said the car was unoccupied, but matched the description of one of the vehicles that had driven onto the football field.
Investigators also discovered that the car had been reported as stolen.
Marblehead police said they are actively investigating to identify the person or people responsible. The investigation is being treated as a criminal matter, and police said they intend to issue charges.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Marblehead Police Department at 781-631-1212.

People just dumping cars in the ocean now?? wild.
So they drove onto the football field then it ends up in the ocean… seems like a prank that got out of hand. I don’t get how it’s “stolen” if it’s their own car or whatever.
Maybe it was one of those teen joyride things but the “treated as criminal” part is always lawyer talk. If the field didn’t have “significant damage” then why are they acting like it’s a whole crime movie? Also how fast do you have to drive to end up in the water from there.
Marblehead police better check the cameras at the school because that’s gotta be on video. The car being “unoccupied” doesn’t mean anything to me either, like people just swam away?? And the ocean thing… I swear these stories always connect to stolen cars like 30 minutes later. Someone’s definitely going to get charged, probably for the gate and not for the ocean part though.
