Jeremy Strong doesn’t just step into a role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning — he steps into the crosshairs of one of tech’s most explosive stories.

In the film, Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg in a “companion piece” and sequel (of a sort) to Sorkin’s 2010 hit The Social Network. The new movie is set to hit theaters on October 9, 2026, and it’s built around a fresh account of corruption at Facebook.

The premise ties directly back to the real-life “Facebook files” exposé published by The Wall Street Journal in 2021. The movie’s synopsis says the story is inspired by what happens when Frances Haugen. a young Facebook engineer. enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz. a Wall Street Journal reporter. to go on a dangerous journey that ends with her blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.

In this new cast lineup, the pressure isn’t just on Zuckerberg. It’s on the people who decide to look closely, ask questions anyway, and keep going when the cost rises.

Jeremy Allen White is set to play Jeff Horwitz. the Wall Street Journal reporter at the center of that dangerous journey. Most viewers will recognize White from Hulu’s The Bear, which is concluding with its fifth and final season in 2026. He’s also earned acclaim for playing Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere. and he previously appeared in The Speed of Life. Afterschool. Bad Turn Worse. Movie 43. After Everything. The Renta. Fingernails and The Iron Claw. In the trailer. his character is described as a driving force in the storyline. including an interview with a Facebook whistleblower that reshapes what the public believes about the platform.

Mikey Madison takes on the role of Frances Haugen. the whistleblower and Facebook engineer whose decision triggers the story’s turning point. Madison is an Academy Award winner known for Anora, Scream (2022), and Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood. She also played a main role in Better Things as Maxine “Max” Fox. In The Social Reckoning. her character sits down with a tech reporter to unveil Facebook’s underlying corruption — the moment the film clearly positions as the plot’s ultimate pivot.

Bill Burr is also aboard, bringing a different kind of energy to a story already heavy with stakes. Details about his character have been under wraps, but the trailer reveals that he plays Charlie, described as an advisor of a sort to Zuckerberg.

Wunmi Mosaku, recently seen as Annie in Sinners, is another name on the cast list. She’s also known for Lovecraft Country, Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine, but her role in The Social Reckoning was not immediately disclosed.

Billy Magnussen rounds out the group of major cast names mentioned in the film’s lineup so far. His character’s part in the story has also been kept under wraps. Magnussen is known for Into the Woods. Bridge of Spies. Aladdin. Get Shorty. Maniac. Made for Love. The Many Saints of Newark and No Time to Die.

The sequence that matters here is simple: Zuckerberg’s presence is confirmed on screen, but the story’s ignition comes from a Facebook engineer and the journalist determined to hear her out — a structure shaped by 2021 reporting and built for 2026.

If you’re looking for a film that asks what happens when secrecy meets scrutiny, The Social Reckoning is already telegraphing its direction: October 9, 2026 is the target date, and the cast is set to put real-world damage into a courtroom-bright, high-pressure dramatic frame.

  1. So Jeremy Strong is basically Zuckerberg now? Kinda wild but I bet it’s gonna be like super dramatic and exaggerated.

  2. Wait is this the movie about that Facebook whistleblower? I thought that already happened like in a documentary. Also Bill Burr?? when did he become a tech guy lol.

  3. Honestly I don’t trust anything “inspired by” the Facebook files. They always leave out the part where Facebook was just trying to grow or whatever. And if it’s a sequel to Social Network, does that mean Zuckerberg wins at the end? Seems like propaganda.

  4. Mikey Madison as Frances Haugen sounds like the right vibe, but I’m confused—does the film come out October 9 2026 or is that just when the trailer drops? Also Aaron Sorkin makes everything sound like courtroom speeches, so hopefully it’s not all talking.
