Police Detail Cost at MSG Wedding Tops $160,000

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s MSG wedding is reportedly drawing a major NYPD presence—over 70 detectives for rehearsal and wedding and more than 50 officers inside the venue—amounting to roughly $160,000 or more in police labor costs.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden is already making headlines for its scale—and now, the price tag for the police response has entered the conversation.
A high-ranking NYPD-sourced breakdown says more than 70 detectives from precincts across the city are set to be assigned to Thursday’s rehearsal and Friday’s wedding. Those detectives would work 8.5-hour shifts at a reported rate of $80 to $90 an hour. On the low end, that comes out to $95,200.
The figure doesn’t stop there. The plan also calls for more than 50 police officers assigned to MSG itself, described as mostly rookies making $70 an hour for a 9-hour shift—adding another $63,000.
Taken together, the numbers the NYPD sources outline point to “roughly $160,000” in police labor costs, with the total expected to rise if NYPD higher-ups are also assigned to work as described. The exact NYPD staffing levels are said to still be fluid, but this is the current plan.
Earlier reporting also placed Taylor Swift’s MSG rental spending at about $1 million a night to rent out Madison Square Garden for at least three days, with additional costs tied to the decor described as expensive too.
For many people, the biggest question isn’t just how much it costs—it’s who pays. With the police-detail expenses framed alongside Swift’s reported multi-day MSG rental costs. the tension turns immediately to whether taxpayers are on the hook for the overtime and labor. or whether Swift is footing the bill.

So taxpayers pay 160k? Wild.
I’m not even surprised it’s expensive, it’s MSG and it’s Taylor. But who actually covers the police overtime?? Like the article says it’s fluid… so is it totally covered or not?
They said 70 detectives and rookies making $70 an hour, so that’s like basically minimum wage bodyguards right? And if Swift is renting the arena for a million a night, why would cops be on a bill for taxpayers… unless the rental price is a lie or something. Either way seems like NYPD gonna get paid no matter what.
This is why nobody trusts anything anymore. First it’s ‘police labor costs’ then ‘who pays’ like cmon, it’s always taxpayers. Also 80-90 an hour for 8.5 hours sounds low to me? Like if it’s 160k total then that’s not even that many people… unless they count the janitors or something. Seems sketchy.
