Patriots’ Boutte plans minicamp as trade buzz swirls

Boutte plans – Kayshon Boutte says he will report for Day 1 of New England’s mandatory minicamp Tuesday, insisting he’s focused on what he can control as trade rumors continue after the Patriots’ A.J. Brown move.
The noise around Kayshon Boutte didn’t wait for mandatory minicamp. It followed him right up to the start of the week—right up to the moment he had to decide whether to let it take over.
But Boutte’s answer, at least for now, is simple: he’s going.
On Saturday. the former LSU wide receiver told Dan Roche of WBZ-TV that he plans to be at minicamp when it gets going on Tuesday. He said he’s trying not to buy into the chatter. “At the end of the day I can control what I can control,” Boutte said. “As long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to do off the field, everything else will play out.”.
For New England, the timing matters. Mandatory minicamps are approaching as the Patriots push to get back on the field after an eventful offseason. Most of the attention has centered on their trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for A.J. Brown. Still, the Patriots might not be done making moves, and Boutte has become the name that keeps resurfacing.
There’s a reason the questions persist. After acquiring Brown. it’s hard for the league to ignore the overlap in skill sets—outside production. and the ability to hurt defenses down the field. Brown. New England’s new high-profile addition. is an outside receiver who loves to win deep while also bringing a more well-rounded and explosive skillset. Boutte. now in his fourth season. plays mostly on the outside as well and has shown he can do a lot of his damage down the field.
If Boutte is being discussed, it’s because the Patriots have shown they’re willing to rethink the roster while building around Drake Maye. And Boutte’s recent production gave the wideout a ceiling that teams can’t ignore.
In 2025, Boutte produced the best season of his career. He caught 33 passes in 14 games for 551 yards and six touchdowns. Late in the year, as Maye became more comfortable with him, he turned into a true weapon in the offense—exactly the kind of development every contending roster hopes to lock in.
Those numbers also explain why trade interest could be realistic. The asking price for Boutte in a trade should be reasonable. and that kind of value tends to draw attention when teams are hunting for playmaking. With New England looking to rebuild holes on their defense and their offensive line in the coming years as they build around Maye. parting ways with the promising wideout for another asset is something the front office could consider.
Still, Boutte is making it clear he isn’t treating the chatter as a disruption. Saturday’s statement wasn’t just about where he’ll be—it was about how he plans to handle a season-long uncertainty. “I try not to buy into it. ” he said. adding that his focus is on doing what he’s supposed to do off the field.
All of it sets up Tuesday with a heavy dose of human stakes for one player. New England reached the Super Bowl last year and the offseason has been anything but quiet. Now. the league’s trade talk runs alongside the real work of football—practice. preparation. and the simple pressure of proving your place when the conversation won’t stop.
Boutte says he’ll be there for Day 1 of Mandatory Minicamp. The rumors can keep swirling, but his plan for now is to let the schedule speak first.
