Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee remaster lands Nov. 3

A long-loved 2002 cult fighter, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, is reportedly being remastered and re-released this year, with a November 3 launch date and a price point of $29.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

On a day when everyone seems to be bracing for what comes next after Grand Theft Auto 6, one older fight is apparently getting its moment back.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is reportedly in development and set to arrive this year, with a proposed release date of November 3. The update is described as being handled by Pipeworks, the US studio that worked on the original game, and published by Atari.

The timing is a gamble. November 3 is close to Grand Theft Auto 6’s November 19 launch, putting the remaster into the small group of releases choosing to come out right when gaming calendars are most crowded.

If the reported plans hold. the remaster will be released for PlayStation 5. Xbox Series X/S. and Nintendo Switch 2. with a PC version “likely” but not yet confirmed. Pricing also has a reported structure: $29.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and $39.99 on Switch 2. PS5 and Switch 2 will also receive physical editions.

The original game first appeared on GameCube in October 2002, then made its way to Xbox in April 2003. It was built around a specific threat: hostile alien species the Vortaak taking control of Earth’s strongest monsters and threatening to destroy the planet unless Earth submits to the Vortaak’s demands.

In the story mode, the player picks one monster. That monster then escapes the Vortaak’s mind control and is tasked with defeating every other monster, before teleporting to the Vortaak’s ship to take down Mechagodzilla and save Earth.

At launch, the original roster was smaller: three playable monsters—’90s Godzilla, Anguirus, and Megalon. Over time, that could expand to 12 through unlockables.

The remaster is reportedly aiming to make progression feel less linear. It is said to include a revised unlocking system where monsters, locations, and gallery items can be unlocked in any order. Beyond that, there are also extra single-player campaigns for each monster.

Beyond the story structure, the update is framed as a full visual rebuild. The remaster is described as featuring graphics remastered from the ground up, while also adding a new online multiplayer mode alongside the local co-op mode that existed in the 2002 version.

Put together, the reported package is clear: it’s not just a re-release for nostalgia. It’s a restructuring of how players unlock content. a boost to how they can play with others. and a promise of a cleaner presentation built from the ground up—arriving on multiple modern platforms right as the industry’s biggest mainstream release window begins to close in.

  1. So it’s a remaster but also “built from the ground up” like… what is it then. I feel like they’ll charge Switch extra because Switch is cursed.

  2. I never even knew there was a PC version coming. “Likely” usually means it’s not coming, so why even mention it. Also $39.99 on Switch 2 while PS5 is $29.99 is kinda wild.

  3. This game already had monsters unlocked, so changing it to unlock in any order sounds like they’re just removing steps. And if there’s new online multiplayer, that’s cool but also probably gonna be buggy. I swear Mechagodzilla always looks the most scuffed in these remasters, idk why I just feel it.
