Patriots and Eagles not close on A.J. Brown
Patriots Eagles – Reporting suggests the Patriots and Eagles are still haggling over A.J. Brown’s trade terms, with a key sticking point centered on whether Philadelphia demands a first-round pick in 2027.
The A.J. Brown-to-the-Patriots storyline has hovered over the NFL offseason for weeks. with the calendar turning toward early June as if it would finally end the wait. But Wednesday night brought a different kind of tension: the framework may not be finished. and the gap between the two teams could be stubborn enough to stretch out.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Wednesday night that the Patriots and Eagles “may still be haggling over the trade terms.” He pointed to the deadline the league calendar creates—waiting for June 1—to shape how the trade could work financially. “As far as the actual trade. we’re all waiting for June 1 to happen. so the cap hit is in half for the Philadelphia Eagles and they can trade [Brown]. ” Rapoport said.
Then came the part that matters most for fans watching this one like a live wire. Rapoport said the deal isn’t something either side can complete with a quick handshake. because the teams remain far apart on compensation. “I just don’t know that it’s going to be like ‘snap your fingers and the deal is done. ’ because the two sides are where they have been — which is the Eagles wanting a first-round pick in 2027. The Patriots — being the most likely destination. we’ll see if someone else arises — but the Patriots [are] not willing to give up a first-round pick. as of right now.”.
From there, the picture tightened. Rapoport summarized the current reality plainly: “That means they’re not particularly close, and there’s a chance this could drag on for the foreseeable future.”
Even with that uncertainty, the story isn’t over. The fact that the compensation isn’t settled yet doesn’t automatically mean the trade won’t land soon once June arrives. “With so much smoke around Brown heading to the Patriots throughout the offseason. it would be an upset if the wideout ends up playing anywhere else in 2026.”.
