For one night, the Brewers are playing baseball under an open roof—and doing it with a roster spot that needed to change before first pitch.
Milwaukee hosted St. Louis on Tuesday night with the roof open for the first time this season. but the game’s first jolt came from the transaction log. The Brewers placed Logan Henderson on the 15-day injured list with low back tightness prior to the matchup. Coleman Crow was recalled to the active roster to take Henderson’s place.
Pat Murphy confirmed Crow will pitch on Friday against the Astros. Wednesday’s starter remains undecided—Murphy said the finale against the Cardinals will be covered by “a combination of guys already on the roster.”
Henderson explained what happened in his last start. He said his back tightened up while he was facing Freddie Freeman in the fourth inning. He’s hoping to return to throwing soon, and he’s already starting to make progress in his recovery—but not enough to be able to make his start tomorrow.
Still. Milwaukee’s attention turns quickly back to the field. where Kyle Harrison has been carrying a heavy part of the workload lately. Harrison is on the mound for the Crew and looking to keep his run going. He hasn’t allowed a run in either of his past two starts. and he hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a single start all season. Over his last five starts, he’s allowed just three runs across 28 innings, producing a 0.96 ERA.
The Cardinals counter with Michael McGreevy, who comes in with a 2.40 ERA in his 10 starts. McGreevy doesn’t rack up strikeouts often—he has 5.9 K/9—but he also limits free passes with 1.9 BB/9 so far. If the matchup plays the way his season numbers suggest. Milwaukee could see more balls in play than it did Monday. when both starters combined for 10-plus strikeouts.
The lineup adds another layer to the evening’s adjustments. Pat Murphy is shaking up Milwaukee’s batting order with Christian Yelich landing in the leadoff spot. while Jackson Chourio slides to the two-spot. Brice Turang, William Contreras, Jake Bauers, and Garrett Mitchell handle the middle of the order. Luis Rengifo, Sal Frelick, and David Hamilton round out the bottom.
St. Louis is keeping its top of the order fairly steady, with JJ Wetherholt leading off, followed by Iván Herrera, Jordan Walker, and Alec Burleson.
Milwaukee has a chance to press its advantage in the NL Central even further. The Brewers have won their last six games when Harrison has started, and this matchup gives them a clear path to extend that trend. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. on Brewers.TV and the Brewerse Radio Network.

So Henderson’s out… again? Back tightness is basically inevitable in baseball I guess.
Wait the roof was open for the first time this season?? That seems like a whole bigger deal than the pitching but ok. Also Harrison hasn’t allowed a run the last two starts? Cardinals are doomed.
Freddie Freeman caused it?? Like he did that on purpose when Henderson was pitching lol. Low back tightness sounds more like bad luck than anything, but still the timing is crazy. Crow recalled to replace him—so does that mean Crow is gonna be on innings limits or whatever?
I swear every time I hear “open roof” the Brewers play better or worse depending on the weather like it’s witchcraft. Henderson on IL before the game, then Crow recalled, and now the starter is “a combination of guys already on the roster” — that sentence makes it sound like they’re just winging it tomorrow. Also Kyle Harrison not allowing runs… I don’t believe it until I see the final score.
