Pat Sajak was ready for his next phase of life — and he wanted to make sure fans knew he’s doing okay.

In a video message posted to X on June 14. the 79-year-old “Wheel of Fortune” host shared a rare “update on life. ” opening with a direct answer to the questions people had been asking him. “Hi!. I know a lot of you have been wondering, asking me how I’m doing, and I’m enjoying life,” Sajak said. He added, “I moved here to Montana and everything is going just great. So, I just want to say hello.”.

In the clip, Sajak stands outside in front of an oceanfront swimming pool framed by palm trees, a striking backdrop that matched his deadpan style. “You’ll have to excuse me, I have some cattle to attend to,” he said, before calling out, “Here, boy!” A “moo” sound effect followed.

Sajak’s personal message lands as he prepares for what he described as his final on-air moment. After 41 seasons, the host announced on Twitter that he will retire next year. The shift marks the end of an era for viewers who grew up watching Sajak and Vanna White together on the syndicated game show.

More than a year has already passed since Sajak stepped away from “Wheel of Fortune.” His final episode of the weeknight series aired in June 2024. and Ryan Seacrest succeeded him that September. Sajak didn’t fully disappear from the franchise. though: he remained involved through “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.” The spinoff’s final episode aired in June 2025.

Since “Wheel of Fortune” debuted in syndication in 1983, Sajak hosted the show alongside Vanna White, who stayed with the program after his retirement.

Outside television, Sajak continues a role that connects him to public life and education. He serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Hillsdale College, a private liberal arts college in Michigan. A college representative previously said the school is “fortunate to have an even closer relationship with Mr. Sajak. ” adding that “Since 2019. we have benefitted from his wisdom. intellect. and good humor as chairman of Hillsdale’s board of trustees” and that it “look[s] forward to continuing our important work together and to what we are sure will be a bright future for Mr. Sajak and his family.”.

Before becoming chairman, Sajak served as vice chairman of Hillsdale’s board from 2003 to 2019 before being named chairman in 2019.

What Sajak shared on X on June 14 read like a quiet check-in from someone deliberately stepping back from the spotlight. The video. with its playful “cattle” aside and mock “Here. boy!” callout. also arrived right when viewers are most focused on his timeline — the next year leading into the retirement he announced on Twitter.
