Pakistan says peace deal could be finalized within 24 hours

Pakistan’s prime minister says the parties are preparing for an electronic signing of a U.S.-Iran peace agreement within 24 hours, while Washington and Tehran send mixed signals over whether a final deal has actually been approved.

For the second straight day, the Strait of Hormuz hovered between quiet and chaos—while Pakistan’s prime minister put a deadline on the diplomatic side of the story.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was preparing for the electronic signing of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran that “could be finalized within the next 24 hours.” In a social media post. he added that the parties were “closer to a peace deal than ever before.” He said technical-level talks would follow next week if the agreement is completed. Pakistan also thanked the United States and Iran for their continued engagement in the negotiations and expressed appreciation to regional partners for their support throughout the process.

The push toward an agreement comes with a sharp contradiction at the center of U.S.-Iran talks. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that a peace deal with Iran could be reached within days. framing it as a significant step toward ending recent hostilities. Trump said Iran’s leadership had agreed in principle to a framework that would extend a ceasefire and reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. He called the proposal “a very detailed memorandum of understanding” and said he expected it to be finalized soon.

Trump also pointed to what he described as a detailed document. In the reporting reflected in the account. a proposed 14-point framework would extend the ceasefire for 60 days. restore commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. and provide limited sanctions relief while broader negotiations continue.

Iran’s position, however, has not matched the optimism coming from Washington. Iran has not confirmed that a final agreement has been reached. Its Foreign Ministry said no final deal had been approved and accused Washington of repeatedly changing its negotiating positions.

That diplomatic uncertainty arrives after a week of heightened tensions in the region. U.S. Central Command said Iran launched multiple one-way attack drones targeting commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said U.S. forces intercepted and destroyed all of the drones, adding that shipping traffic through the strategic waterway remained uninterrupted.

The Strait of Hormuz matters far beyond military maneuvers. It is a critical corridor for global energy shipments and international trade, and it has become the focal point of recent military and diplomatic clashes.

Officials involved in the talks have expressed optimism. but the lingering question is whether this round is a genuine finish line or yet another step that moves quickly—then stalls. Pakistan’s stated timeline. Trump’s assurances of a deal soon. and Iran’s insistence that no final approval has been granted all pull the story in different directions. leaving the next day likely to determine whether the tension eases or simply rearranges itself.

  1. Mixed signals is right. If Iran isn’t even saying it’s approved then what deal are we talking about? Sounds like Trump is hyping it up again just to say something worked.

  2. So wait Pakistan is signing something with Iran and the US? Like why is Pakistan involved in the first place, they’re not even the main parties. Also Strait of Hormuz being “quiet to chaos” every time makes it seem like someone’s just posturing.

  3. I swear every time they talk about a “peace deal” it turns into shipping still getting messed with. 14 points, 60 days, ceasefire, limited sanctions relief… that doesn’t sound like peace, that sounds like pausing a problem. And the fact it’s “electronic signing” like that’s the big news makes me think it’s not really official yet.
