Sepideh Moafi Teases The Pitt Season 3 Return Plans

Sepideh Moafi says her Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi will return with a “staggered entrance” for The Pitt’s third season, while also shutting down feud rumors tied to Noah Wyle’s character.
For Sepideh Moafi, the question isn’t whether Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi matters — it’s when she comes back to the screen. After The Pitt’s season 2 finale, where Moafi’s character had a rift with Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby, fans quickly started connecting the dots. Now, Moafi is setting the tone for what’s next.
Moafi, 40, who plays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, told Gold Derby on Thursday, June 11, that her character will have one of several “staggered entrances” for season 3. She added, “I don’t know anything yet.”
Moafi sounded genuinely energized about what comes next. “I have no doubt that like a phoenix in the fire, she’ll rise,” she said about how “proud” she is to play the character.
When she talked about why Al-Hashimi lands with viewers, Moafi returned to the messages she’s been receiving. She said she has received messages from “not just the healthcare community. but so many people with disabilities or so many people who carry mixed identities or from marginalized communities who feel like they’ve been underrepresented.”.
“I think this character has given visibility to a lot of different types of people,” Moafi continued. “I’m so grateful that she exists. I’m so proud that I got to live inside of her and bring her to life.”
What struck her most. she said. was the response from people living with health conditions — “whether it’s chronic illness or disease or disability.” Moafi described how viewers told her that seeing Al-Hashimi’s experience. including how she manages her situation and the vulnerability she expresses. has made them “feel very seen.”.
The cast shake-ups surrounding season 3 are already part of the conversation. Moafi joined the hit HBO Max series in season 2 as Dr. Al-Hashimi. After her character’s rift with Wyle’s Dr. Robby in the finale, social media speculation flared, with some fans wondering if the show took cues from real-life tension.
Moafi dismissed the insinuations directly. “We’re really great colleagues,” she told Variety in May. “Noah and I have always had a great working relationship. which is why it actually felt safe to do the darker. dirtier work in episode 15. particularly because. between setups. we were shooting the s*** and laughing.”.
She shut down any claim of a personal conflict, saying, “So that’s completely false that there’s a personal sort of beef or rivalry between us, at least not that I’m aware of.” Moafi added, “You can check with Noah, but I don’t know about this.”
There’s more uncertainty around who will return next, not just for Moafi. Moafi’s addition to The Pitt cast came after Tracy Ifeachor’s shocking exit. Following Ifeachor’s absence as Heather Collins in season 2. a source told Us Weekly in July 2025 that it was always the plan for her character — a fourth-year resident — to leave and become a doctor in future installments of the show.
The same logic was used when news broke that Supriya Ganesh wouldn’t reprise her role as Dr. Samira Mohan in season 3. Executive producer R. Scott Gemmill recently explained to Us Weekly, “It’s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately. the way the medical profession works. you come in. you learn. you move on. and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible.” He added. “So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people, and that’s the best we can do.”.
Between cast turnover and the fan buzz sparked by Al-Hashimi’s finale rift with Dr. Robby, Moafi’s message is clear: her character’s story isn’t a feud setup — it’s a carefully staged return. And when season 3 brings her back, it won’t be all at once.
Moafi doesn’t promise details beyond what she knows right now. But she does leave viewers with the feeling that Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi isn’t finished — and that the show’s next moves will still make room for the kind of representation that has been resonating far beyond the hospital walls.

Staggered entrance?? So like she appears late or in pieces lol. I only read the headline.
So are they shutting down the feud rumors or confirming them? Because it sounds like both. Also Noah Wyle… I’ll watch but this is confusing.
I guess the phoenix in the fire means she comes back stronger after the season 2 finale? Like they’re trying to tie it into disability representation but I’m not sure how a “staggered entrance” helps with that.
Wait, I thought The Pitt is like a real hospital show… but it’s not? And Dr. Baran is the one from the feud with Dr. Robby right? If she’s coming back, does that mean the character rift is over? I swear these articles never say the actual plot, just vibes.
