‘Outer Banks’ Season 5 Ending Explained: Where the Main Characters End Up, Including Who’s Married, Who’s Engaged & More

Outer Banks season five wrapped up on Netflix today after the entire season dropped on August 20.
Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.
So, where do John B, Sarah, and the rest of the gang end up at the end of the series?
John B and Sarah Cameron
John B and Sarah end up having a son together, who they name JJ after their late friend.
They also get married a year later, and settle into family life in the town they helped rebuild.
The end sees him ringing the same bell he used to hear growing up, telling him it was time to return home.
Kiara Carrera
In a memorable scene in season five, she tries to bring JJ back from the dead using the ancient Blue Crown powers. While it does not bring him back, she has visions of them together. She ends up using this at motivation for her life, uses her portion of the gold to buy back the Maybank house, and begin the next chapter of her life.
She acts as a bridesmaid in John B and Sarah’s wedding, and we see her as a marine biology intern for the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries!
Pope Heyward and Cleo Anderson
The pair ended up separated for part of the season, but found their way back to one another. In the finale episode, Pope proposes to Cleo and they become engaged! They end up moving into Tannyhill, and Pope walks Sarah down the aisle at her wedding.
Rafe Cameron and Sofia
In the finale, as his redemption arc continued, Rafe manages to free Sofia from jail, and helped John B, Sarah, Pope and Kiara by turning on the beacon of the lighthouse.
They then fled to South America together. He did not attend his sister’s wedding to John B. but can be seen in a video call celebrating with the family at the end.
Be sure to find out the reason why the show is ending.
