Opposition rejects alleged court claims, files Cyber Crime complaint

The Leader of the Opposition says social media posts about alleged court statements are false and has lodged a Cyber Crime complaint.

A fresh wave of social media posts about alleged court remarks has triggered an official complaint, with the Opposition calling the claims misleading and false.

In a statement, the Office of the Leader of the Opposition said it is seriously concerned about information circulating online that attributes remarks allegedly made in court to Imran Khan, also known as “King Khan.” The Office says it will be lodging a report with the Police Cyber Crime Unit.

The Opposition also rejected circulating assertions that the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, and Parveen Bala were interviewed by the media and responded to the allegations.. Misryoum reports that the Office states neither Seruiratu nor Parveen Bala has been interviewed or made any comment on the matter.

Misryoum insight: This matters because even when people are focused on court developments, misattributed statements can quickly reshape public understanding and trust.

The Office further said that information available to it indicates the remarks being linked to court proceedings were not made in court in the first instance. It accused continued sharing of the claims of fuelling misinformation and creating avoidable confusion among the public.

The Opposition said it condemns the circulation of false information, particularly where it misrepresents court proceedings and assigns statements or actions that did not occur.. It added that the conduct is irresponsible and risks undermining confidence in the judicial process and public institutions.

The Office said those responsible for originating and spreading the misinformation will be held to account. It urged members of the public to be careful when consuming and sharing online information, and to avoid spreading unverified claims.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s counsel, Dinati Lawyers, said no such statement was made by their client in court during the bail proceedings, as alleged.. Misryoum understands that the legal team pointed to the availability of court records and stated that Khan did not make any statement in court at any time.

Misryoum insight: Legal disputes around alleged statements often hinge on what is on the official record, so clarifications like this can matter for how fast misinformation spreads and how long it lingers.
