Oilers sign Connor Ungar to $850,000 one-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers signed goaltender Connor Ungar to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season with an AAV of $850,000, keeping the 24-year-old prospect firmly in the organization’s goaltending pipeline.
By the time Connor Ungar finished splitting time across Edmonton’s ECHL and AHL affiliates in 2025-26. it looked less like development and more like a steady march toward bigger opportunities. On Thursday. the Edmonton Oilers made that next step official. signing the goaltender to a one-year. two-way contract for the 2026-27 season with an AAV of $850. 000.
Ungar, 24, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 205 pounds. The move keeps him inside Edmonton’s organizational goaltending pipeline, a path the Oilers have leaned on as they work toward having a deeper group of game-ready options.
In 2025-26, Ungar’s workload wasn’t confined to one league. He split time across ECHL and AHL affiliates, and the results traveled with him.
With Greensboro, he went 2-1-1 in four games, producing a 1.42 GAA and a .945 SV%, including a shutout against Tahoe. In two starts for Fort Wayne, he posted a 1.44 GAA and a .944 SV%, winning both.
When his season shifted to Orlando, Ungar played 19 games and put together a 7-8-3 line with a 2.66 GAA and a .913 SV%. Even in a tougher stretch, there were moments that stuck: a 37-save shutout in his debut at Savannah, plus two shutouts during the stint.
With Bakersfield, he made 13 starts and finished 9-2-2 with a 2.51 GAA and a .923 SV%. He added a 25-save shutout against Ontario and picked up wins in his first six AHL starts.
The deal also rewards what happened earlier in his pro career. Ungar began with Fort Wayne in the ECHL, compiling a 19-12-4 record in 35 games with a 2.74 GAA and a .903 SV%, along with three shutouts.
Before turning professional. his journey ran through the WHL. where he played for the Moose Jaw Warriors. Red Deer Rebels. and Brandon Wheat Kings. In the 2022-23 season. he finished with a 26-7-0 record in 38 games. a 2.58 GAA and a .925 SV% and helped Moose Jaw reach the WHL Conference Semifinals. Moose Jaw’s run ended when they lost to the Winnipeg Ice in six games. He also spent a season at Brock University, earning rookie and goaltender of the year honors.
Edmonton’s goaltending picture doesn’t hinge on Ungar alone. The organization’s depth includes Samuel Jonsson. who made his North American debut with Fort Wayne. and 21-year-old Nathaniel Day. who arrived after his first full pro season with the Komets. Elsewhere, prospects Eemil Vinni in Finland’s Mestis and Daniel Salonen in the Liiga add to the pipeline.
Still, Ungar’s recent track record lands with weight: his 13 AHL appearances with Bakersfield and his 9-2-2 record are positioning him for a larger role with the Condors next season.
There’s a clear thread through the numbers across leagues and teams. Every stop in 2025-26 carried production—whether it was the Greensboro shutout. the Fort Wayne wins with a 1.44 GAA. the 37-save shutout in Orlando. or the strong Bakersfield start streak—and now Edmonton has given that momentum a contract to match.

850k for a goalie prospect? man the Oilers really just throwing money at whoever has pads.
Wait is this the same Connor Ungar from that other league? I saw somewhere he was already in the NHL pipeline? 2-way makes it sound like he’s just bouncing forever.
If he’s 6-2 205 then he should’ve been starting like yesterday. Also the stats in Orlando look rough like .913?? but then people act like this is great development lol.
Two-way contract meaning he only gets paid when he’s on the ice right? so why are we celebrating 850,000 like that’s real NHL money. Edmonton always has like 12 goalies in “pipeline” and then none of them pan out anyway.
