On the plaza in front of the Chicago museum, the countdown for the Obama Presidential Center is already building—long before the doors open to the public.

Thursday, June 18 at 11 a.m. CT (noon ET), the grand opening ceremony begins and will be livestreamed from the Obama Foundation’s website. The event is taking place in Chicago, but the invitation-only ceremony will be watched far beyond Illinois.

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are expected to speak at the June 18 ceremony. The stage will also bring performers including Bruce Springsteen. Stevie Wonder. and U2’s Bono and The Edge. along with a broad lineup that spans generations of American music and culture.

Ticket access has already been restricted in person. The opening ceremony on the plaza is invite-only, and even the local watch party’s tickets have been sold out for a long time.

But for people watching remotely, the ceremony is designed to be reachable. The livestream will be available on the Obama Foundation website.

The performers scheduled for June 18 include The Roots, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, Common, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony, Tems, and Marsai Martin—joining the headline names already set for the event: Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, and U2’s Bono and The Edge.

The timing matters. The ceremony arrives the day before the Obama Presidential Center officially opens to the public on June 19, the federal holiday Juneteenth.

The center itself includes a museum described as towering, a Chicago Public Library branch, an athletic center, a civic center, and additional components on a shared campus.

The museum and surrounding campus sit on Chicago’s South Side in Jackson Park. The site is near the University of Chicago and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.

Demand is showing up immediately in the ticketing numbers. As of June 17, museum tickets were sold out through the end of October.

Taken together, the sequence is clear: an invite-only ceremony with sold-out local watch party access on June 18, a global livestream for those left outside the gates, and then the official public opening on June 19, Juneteenth—followed by a museum schedule that has already run into fall.
