Norman Reedus Says Goodbye as Daryl Dixon Filming Ends

Norman Reedus marked the end of shooting for the final season of “TWD: Daryl Dixon,” reflecting on 16 years of playing Daryl and teasing a season that “hits just way different this time.”
Norman Reedus came back from Mongolia, scrolled through photos from the last episode, and felt the weight of what was done.
On Tuesday. the actor shared an Instagram post that read like a final check-in with a character he’s carried for years. “Finally going through these photos to check off from the last episode now that I’m back from Mongolia it was really hard to kill any of them. ” Reedus wrote. He added that he “didn’t post any of those here. ” but still held onto the moment—then pointed forward to what’s coming.
Reedus said the crew’s work left him with a feeling he didn’t expect to lose. “I can’t wait for people to see this show the crew best I’ve ever worked with the feeling of accomplishment when it was over was just amazing.”
In a follow-up note, he described the season as something built with both effort and emotion. “Such hard work and so much heart put into this I think you’re gonna feel it,” he continued. “It was a special season. I can’t wait for you to see it. It hits just way different this time.”
There’s still no release date set for the fourth season of “TWD: Daryl Dixon.” The announcement that it would be the show’s final outing came at San Diego Comic-Con last year, ahead of the Season 3 premiere.
Reedus had already spoken about the end point then, telling fans: “‘Daryl Dixon’ has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters. and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward – Daryl’s journey is far from over.”.
Reedus has played Daryl Dixon since the first season of AMC’s “Walking Dead” adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book began in 2010. Daryl was an original character created for the show—met at first with some hesitancy before becoming a steady fan-favorite as the series took off.
“TWD: Daryl Dixon” is set around Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol as they struggle against the undead apocalypse overseas while trying to get home. And as the fourth and final season prepares to close the book on that particular run. Reedus’s message lands at the end of a long chapter: the character could mark the end of the role he’s played for the past 16 years.
Elsewhere in the franchise, the original “The Walking Dead” ended in 2022 after 11 seasons. The fellow spinoff “Dead City” is set to premiere its third season July 26 on AMC and AMC+.
