Newsmax’s E.D. Hill Dismisses Iran Ceasefire Claims

Newsmax anchor E.D. Hill pressed a State Department official on why the Trump administration continues calling the U.S.-Iran situation a ceasefire, after U.S. strikes were described as self-defense actions. Hill said the label is a “farce,” while the State Dep

On Tuesday morning, Newsmax anchor E.D. Hill sounded the alarm over one phrase the Trump administration keeps using about Iran: ceasefire.

Hill sat down with State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott and immediately challenged the logic of continuing to describe a halt in fighting while the U.S. carried out what Hill called contradicting actions. “A self-defensive strike implies that there was an offensive action. So how can you explain that we keep on calling this a ceasefire with those actions?” she asked.

The pressure point was timing and wording. U.S. Central Command had said America conducted “self-defense strikes” on missile launch sites and mine-placing boats in Southern Iran on Monday. Hill pointed to the language clash directly, arguing the ceasefire label didn’t fit the reality of strikes.

The State Department spokesperson responded by steering the conversation toward intent and framing. “We are going to take actions to defend U.S. troops and U.S. interests. that’s been clear from the very beginning and that is going to continue. and that is common sense. ” Pigott said. adding that it was important to stress the “defensive nature of these actions.”.

He also said President Donald Trump is emphasizing a “diplomatic approach” to ending the Iran war, while making clear the U.S. will carry out military action “as necessary” in retaliation.

Hill didn’t let that land as a clean answer. “Tommy, then why do we continue, kind of the farce, of saying it a ceasefire,” she said. “Let’s just say. ‘We still have this conflict ongoing.’ I don’t think the American people are going to be upset about that. you either support it or you don’t. But we clearly don’t have a ceasefire.”.

Pigott did not directly address the ceasefire terminology question. He said Trump “holds all of the cards” in the Iran negotiations, and the interview moved on.

The exchange comes as the White House’s stated path toward resolving the conflict remains anchored in talks. even as the administration’s military posture continues. Trump announced last weekend that a deal with Iran would “be announced shortly. ” though later indications suggested the agreement could take a week to hammer out.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that it is “unacceptable” that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, but that it would be opened “one way or the other.”

The clash between Hill and Pigott wasn’t about whether the U.S. is willing to use force. It was about what language the government should use while doing it—and whether calling it a ceasefire helps the public understand what is actually happening in real time.

  1. I dont even get it, because if its a ceasefire then why are we striking? Sounds like semantics just to make it easier for people to swallow.

  2. E.D. Hill is right on one part at least, but also like… couldnt a “ceasefire” mean just less fighting not zero? My cousin said thats how it works, idk though. Either way the wording is weird.

  3. Farce is the word for it. If we’re doing “self-defense” strikes then who was attacking, like did Iran attack first or is this just Trump trying to look tough while saying diplomatic stuff. Also why is the newsmax host acting like she discovered the contradiction like everybody else hasn’t noticed??
