NBC’s 2026 fall lineup adds four—nine shows get dropped

NBC’s 2026 – NBC is reshaping its fall 2026 TV slate with four new series—featuring Peter Krause, David Boreanaz, Téa Leoni, Tim Daly and Jake Johnson—and nine cancellations, as the network’s programming leadership points to a “very tight schedule.”
NBC’s fall 2026 schedule is about to look different—starting with the moments viewers probably won’t expect: more than a dozen titles in flux, nine shows removed before summer even begins, and a fresh slate built around two dramas and two comedies.
At the center of the shake-up is NBCUniversal programming strategy president Jeff Bader. who told reporters the network is running on a “very tight schedule.” He said NBC had to “look for opportunities where we could grow. ” adding that there are shows the network “love” but that “just didn’t make the cut.”.
The changes come as NBC leans into a lineup that ranges from FBI-and-Secret Service intrigue to private-investigator comedy—while long-running series such as “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” remain in place.
New shows NBC is adding for fall 2026
“Line of Fire” is scheduled for Mondays from 10–11 p.m. ET/PT. The drama follows “a family of law enforcement agents” as they bridge personal differences and cross professional boundaries to tackle cases for the FBI. US Marshals. Secret Service. and Department of Justice. NBC’s synopsis says a “seemingly cut-and-dry case” spirals into a deadly conspiracy. forcing the agents to use their lifelong expertise to protect one another and bring the killer to justice “even if it means betraying their sworn code.”.
Peter Krause stars in what is described as his first role since he exited the long-running first responder drama “911.” Hope Davis is also in the cast. The series is produced by Josh Safran (“Gossip Girl”), Ben Spector, and “Today” host Jenna Bush Hager.
On Thursdays at 8–9 p.m. ET/PT, “The Rockford Files” lands as a contemporary update on the classic series. David Boreanaz, known from “Bones” and “SEAL Team,” will star in the title role. The series follows newly paroled James Rockford. who returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. NBC’s description says Rockford’s quest for legitimacy quickly puts him in conflict with local police and organized crime.
Jacki Weaver (“Animal Kingdom”) is also in the cast.
Téa Leoni and Tim Daly anchor “Newlyweds,” a comedy on Tuesdays from 8:30–9 p.m. ET/PT. NBC describes it as “a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor” who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. The network also teased that Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis will appear as a recurring guest star. and she will also serve as a producer.
On Fridays at 8–8:30 p.m. ET/PT, NBC is also rolling out “Happy’s Place,” already on the schedule. After that, “Sunset P.I.” moves into the next slot at 8:30–9 p.m. ET/PT. Though NBC bills “Sunset” as a comedy. the synopsis says the series “continues the proud tradition of Los Angeles private eyes that began with Philip Marlowe. ” but also that “tradition will end with this show.”.
The cast includes Jake Johnson, Jane Levy, Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby and Keith David. The series is written by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” producers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, and the first episode is directed by Lonely Island comedian Akiva Schaffer.
