Nandi-Ndaitwah expresses condolences after Festus Mogae death

Namibia’s President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has sent condolences to Botswana following the death of former President Festus Mogae, praising his leadership and regional contribution.
Staff Reporter PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed deep sadness following the passing of former President of Botswana, His Excellency Dr.. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, who died at the age of 86.. In a message of condolence, Nandi-Ndaitwah, on behalf of the Government and people of Namibia, as well as in her personal capacity, extended heartfelt sympathies to Botswana President Duma Boko, the Government and people of Botswana, and the bereaved family.. Former President Mogae was described
as a distinguished statesman, principled leader, and committed Pan-Africanist whose contribution to Botswana, the SADC region and the African continent will be remembered with great respect.. Nandi-Ndaitwah added that during Mogae’s presidency, relations between Namibia and Botswana continued to strengthen, building on already historic and cordial ties.. She said this period, under the leadership of Namibia’s Founding President Dr.. Sam Nujoma and later Second President Dr.. Hifikepunye Pohamba, saw continued cooperation between the two countries
in pursuit of regional peace, stability, economic cooperation and African unity.. “Former President Mogae played an important role in deepening the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two sister republics,” she said.. She further highlighted his calm leadership, wisdom, humility and commitment to good governance, which earned him respect beyond Botswana’s borders.. Nandi-Ndaitwah recalled the spirit of solidarity and mutual respect that characterised relations between Namibia and Botswana during his tenure, particularly within
the Southern African Development Community (SADC) framework.. She said both countries worked closely to advance regional integration, development and prosperity for their people.. “As Namibia joins Botswana in mourning this profound loss, we stand in solidarity with the people of Botswana during this difficult period of grief and remembrance,” she said.. She concluded by extending condolences and wishing that the late former President’s soul rest in eternal peace.
