Namibia’s EU exports hit N$17.6 billion in 2025, creating more than 46,000 jobs

Namibia exported N$90.4bn in 2025, with N$17.6bn going to the EU, helping create 46,762 jobs.
Staff Reporter NAMIBIA exported goods worth N$90.4 billion in 2025, with exports to the European Union (EU) accounting for N$17.6 billion of the total.. This was highlighted by Robin Sherbourne, an EU consultant and independent economist, during the Second Namibia-EU Business Forum, held in Windhoek from 11 to 13 May 2026 under the theme “Towards Stronger, Greener and More Diversified Economies: Catalysing Business and Trade Opportunities between the EU and Namibia.” Sherbourne revealed that six
EU member states—Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and Germany—accounted for 95% of all Namibian exports to the EU in 2025.. He noted that Namibia’s exports to the EU were diversified, including fish, uranium, meat, fruit, charcoal, crustaceans, diamonds, dimension stone, and base metal ores.. “Export diversification increases local value addition, economic growth and employment creation and reduces vulnerability to sector specific shocks.. In general, a Namibia dollar invested in a capital-intensive sector such as
mining generates fewer jobs than a Namibia dollar invested in labour-intensive sectors such as agriculture, fishing or charcoal,” he added.. According to Sherbourne, Namibia’s diversified exports to the EU, which included labour-intensive products, contributed significantly to both direct and indirect job creation.. He reported that 46,762 jobs were created in Namibia in 2025 as a result of exports to the EU.. This includes 19,316 jobs from fruit and vegetable exports, 10,420 jobs from fish and
crustacean exports, 10,146 jobs from livestock exports, and 5,463 jobs from charcoal exports.. He revealed that other EU-bound exports also contributed to local employment, including uranium, processed meat, diamonds (excluding those from the Namibia Diamond Trading Company and NAMDIA), and base metals, which created 428, 834, 83, and 72 jobs respectively..
