Michael Gledhill, the son of James Handy’s girlfriend, has been charged with murder and an allegation he used a deadly weapon, a knife—one day after the actor was stabbed to death at his Los Angeles home.
James Handy wasn’t found in some distant emergency room or after a long investigation. He was discovered in the front yard of his Los Angeles home after being stabbed—then died from his wounds. One day later, the person arrested in connection with the killing has now been charged with murder.
Michael Gledhill, 44, has been charged with one count of murder with a special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a press release that the death was “not how anyone’s life should end. ” adding that Handy was “stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home.” Hochman also said the victim “deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about.”.
Authorities were called to Handy’s Los Angeles home yesterday morning, where the actor was found stabbed in the front yard. Police arrested Gledhill a short time later.
Gledhill’s mother told TMZ that her son had become increasingly paranoid and had been prescribed medication after his July 2025 schizophrenia diagnosis. She also said she recently learned he had stopped taking his medication about a week before police found James Handy stabbed to death outside her home.
If convicted as charged, Gledhill faces up to 26 years to life in state prison.

So he just got found in the front yard and they already charged the son? I don’t even know what to think. The schizophrenia meds part sounds important but also people don’t always take those stuff right, so ugh.
Why is it saying the girlfriend’s son like that doesn’t matter? If he was acting paranoid, maybe it was like self defense or something? Not saying it is, but I feel like the whole “stabbed in the chest left dying” line makes it sound premeditated for sure.
I saw TMZ clip about this and it didn’t say all the details, but now it’s like “knife allegation” and “murder charge” in the same breath. They said he stopped his medication a week before?? That’s either super negligent or just really tragic timing. Also why was James Handy just out front, like couldn’t he have been found somewhere else?? Seems like a lot happened fast.
