Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are stepping into a fresh life far from the Yellowstone ranch—but the reality behind their new chapter sits in more than one place on the map.
Dutton Ranch. the latest spinoff from creator Taylor Sheridan. centers on the fan-favorite couple as they begin a new story away from the Yellowstone ranch. The series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they start over in Texas. but filming for the series spanned both Montana and Texas.
The show airs on Paramount Network and is also available to stream on Paramount+. New episodes are released weekly on Fridays through the Season 1 finale, and viewers can also watch via live TV streaming services that carry Paramount Network.
Most of the production took place in North Texas. and the list of filming locations reads like a tour of the region: Ferris. Weatherford. Fort Worth. Boyd. Cleburne. Mineral Wells and Dallas. The fictional town of Rio Paloma was primarily brought to life through filming in Ferris. Edwards Ranch, meanwhile, was portrayed by the real-life Saunders Ranch in Weatherford.
Ferris, in particular, leaned into the attention. Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We absolutely thought it would bring some name recognition. some notoriety to the city. ” adding. “We are a town that has been sleepy and small. but we are a town that is absolutely growing. and we have a lot to offer.”.
Even with Beth and Rip’s new start anchored to Texas on-screen, the production still reached beyond the Lone Star State, with Dutton Ranch filmed in Montana as well.
This spinoff lands within a broader Yellowstone universe that continues to expand under Taylor Sheridan. Alongside Dutton Ranch. the franchise includes 1883. starring Tim McGraw. Faith Hill and Sam Elliott; 1923. led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren; The Madison. starring Michelle Pfeiffer; and Marshals. which follows Luke Grimes‘ character. Kayce Dutton.
