The Spurs walked into Game 4 at Frost Bank Center with a clear message—and they backed it up with a performance that never slipped. San Antonio rolled past the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 on Sunday, leveling the Western Conference Finals at 2-2.
They started fast again, powered by the two-way dominance of Victor Wembanyama. This time, unlike Game 3, the Spurs didn’t lose control. They built a cushion of as much as 25 points and kept it there long enough to turn the night into a statement.
Wembanyama finished with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocks. Devin Vassell contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while De’Aaron Fox added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.
After the final buzzer, the praise landed directly on Vassell. In the postgame conference, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson made sure his point was heard.
“He’s been phenomenal. He may be our most consistent player if you took away any stats and just watched us play,” Johnson said. “He’s developed into a heck of a scorer in this league.”
Vassell’s impact has only grown during this first trip through the conference finals. In the run referenced after the game, he’s averaged 17.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks. His defense has held up as well.
San Antonio also did the kind of limiting work that changes entire possessions. The Spurs held the Thunder to 33% shooting from the field, including 6-of-33 from three-point range. They converted that pressure into extra scoring, producing 25 points off Oklahoma City’s 20 turnovers.
Still, what stood out most from Vassell was the tone he set when asked about the turnaround. He pointed to the urgency of not letting the series swing away before the team could enjoy home-court advantages.
“You definitely don’t want to go down 3-1 going into their house. We knew we had to respond, and that’s how you respond. You get stops. You don’t try and focus on the offensive end, you get stops, you get out of transition. You guard your yard, and that’s what we did,” Vassell said.
Game 5 returns to Paycom Center on Tuesday. For Spurs fans, though, the message from Sunday is already clear: this series is back on its feet—and Vassell’s form is at the center of how they got there.

Vassell was doing the most fr. 6-of-33 from 3 is wild.
So they tied it 2-2 right? I swear last game they were up 3-1 or something? This series is moving like my wifi.
I don’t even follow Spurs like that but why is Mitch Johnson “hailing” anyone when it’s obviously the other team choking? 33 points and still only 13 for Vassell… math ain’t mathin to me.
Game 5 at Paycom Center Tuesday, right? I feel like that’s gonna flip right back because OKC always plays better at home. Also 25 points off turnovers sounds fake like they’re just saying stuff to hype it up. Still, if Vassell is ‘most consistent’ then why wasn’t he doing this the whole time? Sounds like the coach only noticed it after.
