NCAA softball – Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, UCLA, Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee and Oklahoma State all found paths through the opening games of the NCAA Division I Softball Super Regionals—setting up best-of-3 series that will decide who advances. Host schools start Game 1 at ho
Every series in NCAA Division I softball Super Regionals is built to feel like it’s narrowing by the hour. The format makes it plain: best-of-3, host school at home for Game 1, visiting school at home for Game 2, and a coin flip deciding who gets the home edge in Game 3.
On Friday, May 22, No. 1 Alabama took control at Tuscaloosa, Ala., beating No. 4 LSU 7-0. Saturday, May 23, Alabama doubled down with a 4-1 win over LSU, following an earlier 2-0 result noted for the series.
At Gainesville, Fla., the series with Texas Tech and No. 2 Florida played like a seesaw. Friday, May 22, Texas Tech routed Florida 10-8. Saturday, May 23, Florida answered with a 10-2 win. Sunday, May 24, Texas Tech vs. Florida is set for noon.
Across the country at Fayetteville, Ark., Arkansas and Duke also moved in sharp turns. Friday, May 22, No. 2 Arkansas beat No. 3 Duke 14-5 in five innings. Saturday, May 23, Arkansas kept rolling with a 10-2 win.
In Los Angeles, UCLA opened its series against UCF with a pitching-and-defense statement. Friday, May 22, No. 2 UCLA beat No. 6 UCF 9-1 in five innings. Saturday, May 23, UCLA extended the lead with a 14-4 win.
At Lincoln, Neb., Nebraska and Oklahoma State traded momentum under the Super Regional lights. Friday, May 22, No. 1 Nebraska beat No. 4 Oklahoma State 8-1. Saturday, May 23, Nebraska again won, 9-1 in five innings.
Austin. Texas brought a quieter kind of tension at the ballpark: Arizona State and Texas kept the score close in the early swing of their series. Friday, May 22, No. 5 Arizona State beat No. 1 Texas 4-1. Saturday, May 23, Texas evened things up with a 4-3 win over Arizona State. Sunday, May 24, Arizona St. vs. Texas is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
At Knoxville, Tenn., No. 2 Tennessee and No. 3 Georgia staged a close start. Thursday, May 21, Tennessee won 3-1. Friday, May 22, Tennessee followed with a 2-1 win.
In Norman, Okla., Mississippi State and Oklahoma played out another high-stakes battle. Friday, May 22, No. 5 Mississippi State beat No. 1 Oklahoma 11-9. Saturday, May 23, Oklahoma returned the favor with a 7-1 win. Sunday, May 24, Mississippi St. vs. Oklahoma is set for an 11-9 finish, listed as the final result.
The pattern across the matchups is clear: with home-field traded across games and the possibility of a decisive Game 3 guided by a coin flip, each run matters twice—once for the score, and again for the pressure it creates moving forward.

So is the coin flip real or is that just sports talk? Like who thought that was a good idea.
Alabama shutting out LSU 7-0 then 4-1?? That’s wild. I don’t even follow softball like that but seeing 0 runs makes me wanna watch.
Wait I thought best-of-3 meant whoever wins the first game automatically moves on… so why are they talking about Game 3 home edge like it matters? Also Florida being up 10-2 then losing again sounds made up.
Coin flip for home edge in Game 3 is honestly crazy to me. They could just let the team with better record have it. But whatever, Arkansas winning 14-5 then 10-2 is the kind of momentum you never see in baseball? Not sure why softball is different tho.
