Mike Woodson Celebrates Knicks Title, Praises James Dolan

Mike Woodson says he’s “truly, truly happy” for Knicks owner James Dolan after New York added a Larry O’Brien trophy, praising the team’s Finals win and calling the moment “unbelievable.”

Mike Woodson didn’t hesitate when asked how it feels to watch the New York Knicks win it all.

“There’s no bittersweet feeling,” the former Knicks player and coach told MISRYOUM, insisting it’s all joy. “Once a Knick, always a Knick.”

Woodson said the run has been especially hard to process after decades when the franchise couldn’t get over the hump. He called it “unbelievable” to see Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and the rest of the group handle business against the San Antonio Spurs.

If there was one person he wanted to single out, it was Knicks owner James Dolan. Woodson said he’s “truly, truly happy” to see Dolan add a Larry O’Brien trophy to his trophy case.

The celebration, Woodson said, isn’t limited to the organization. He knows what the Knicks mean to the city—and he pointed to the team parading down Broadway last week as proof. Even though Woodson once tried to be the guy who turned the franchise around, that optimism hasn’t faded. He took over as head coach in March 2012 after Mike D’Antoni resigned.

Now Woodson is an assistant with the Sacramento Kings, and he told MISRYOUM he’s completely satisfied with their draft picks.

For Woodson, though, his feelings about the Knicks are simple: nothing but love, and a win that finally looks like it sticks.
