Michelle Buteau Co-Hosts Pride Brunch, Cheers Peppermint

Michelle Buteau surprised fans and Peppermint at NYC Pride’s “It’s Giving Brunch” on June 20, judging the walk-off at Stella 34 Trattoria. The moment lands just before “Survival of the Thickest” returns with its third and final season on July 2.

Michelle Buteau didn’t just show up to NYC Pride’s drag brunch—she jumped into the energy, surprising fans and Peppermint at “It’s Giving Brunch” on Saturday, June 20, at Stella 34 Trattoria in New York City.

The “Survival of the Thickest” star, creator, writer and executive producer appeared as a surprise guest and even stepped into a judging role for a walk-off with brunch attendees.

Peppermint’s co-host for the event was fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Olivia Lux. The cast featured Mo’Riah, ShowPonii and Egypt.

Buteau’s appearance came as Peppermint continues to mark big Pride milestones. Next weekend. Peppermint will also serve as one of the Grand Marshals at the NYC Pride March on Sunday. June 28. alongside Bowen Yang. Dominique Jackson. broadcaster Bernie Wagenblast and the activist organization Gays Against Guns.

The Pride weekend momentum is landing right before the return of “Survival of the Thickest,” with its third and final season set to arrive on Netflix. The series is inspired by Michelle Buteau’s book of essays of the same name.

At the center of “Survival of the Thickest” is Mavis Beaumont. played by Buteau—a Black. plus-size woman who’s falling in love while loving herself. Mavis works to build her brand as a stylist and designer. determined not only to survive but to thrive. leaning on her chosen family. a body-positive attitude. and a “cute v-neck with some lip gloss.” The scripted comedy is drawn from Buteau’s acclaimed essays.

Season three premieres on Netflix on July 2. It will include guest stars such as Garcelle Beauvais, Wanda Sykes, DL Hughley, Ashley Graham, Ronny Chieng, Jenna Lyons, Ice-T and more.

For now, the drag brunch at Stella 34 Trattoria offered a bright prelude—Buteau sharing the spotlight with her co-star Peppermint while Pride rolled forward, walk-off judging included.

  2. Wait I thought “Survival of the Thickest” was already out like last year, didn’t they cancel it? Also Peppermint is Olivia Lux’s manager or something? My timeline is a mess.

  3. Pride brunch at Stella 34 Trattoria sounds like an ad. Like is this show just about being plus-size and then walking off? And why are Grand Marshals doing brunch… seems backwards to me but okay.
